The local pills are not working.

An American chap gave me some pills a number years ago when I had a similar nasty and persistent cough which worked great but unfortunately I forget their name.

Can someone help..? Thanks

Yes, more info is needed...how long, what other symptoms, what meds taken etc.

In terms of supressing a cough, Brown Mixture sold in all pharmacies and 7-11s is effective (green box with oranger tiger on it, usually near cashier counter at 7-11). It contains small amount of opiate so do not drive after taking it and you may feel a little sleepy.

However this does nothing to address the cause of the cough. Also note that if there is any congestion in the chest, it is important to bring up the phlegm so not good idea to suppress the cough reflex. (Though I think some allowance can be made at night for the sake of sleep).

Thanks will try the one from 7eleven.

The cough is from a bad cold. The wife had it last month and is just getting over it. I had sore throat and blocked nose last week but whenever I get a cough it's always bad.

Redoxan (effervescent tablets of Vit C and zinc, all the pharmacies have it) is very effective in shortening the duration of colds and flu. Not sure if it will make too much difference taken now if you have already been ill for a while but no harm in trying and next time, take at first sign of a cold.

Be careful if asking for Redozon as there are many kinds and some will even supply CDC calcium formula if you just ask for Redozon.   They do have a good flavor.
