A suspected drug dealer drowned in a Samut Prakan canal as another dealer escaped in a bungled arrest on Friday.

CSD cops at least managed to arrest one woman - the sister-in-law of the deceased.

Region 1 Crime Suppression Division cops acting on a tip off had approached three people acting suspiciously by the footpath of the Bang Priang canal.

Rungrot Phoonsawat decided to jump in the canal and swim to the other side 20 meters away to make his escape.

But he was forced to turn back when he saw officers positioned on the other side. He abandoned a bag he was carrying but got tired of swimming and drowned.

He was fished out some time later by Per Teck Tung foundation divers - he was still clutching his car keys. The bag contained a quantity of drugs.

His sister-in-law Jarunee Johkaew, 37 was caught and found to be in possession of 30 Ya Ba tablets - 70 more were found at her home and Klong Dan district police charged her with possession of Class 1 drugs with intent to sell.

The hunt is on for another person who managed to get away.

Per Meat Loaf.... two out of three, ain’t bad.

its a pity the nations crime rate , as a whole, isn’t quite as good.

they really do have a complete lack of understanding, when it comes to spin doctoring.

I don't see how an idiot jumping into a canal trying to flee arrest is police bungling. But I am sure they will press the person that they did arrest to give up the person that did get away. But the evidence will be gone.

I don't know about Thailand, but in many jurisdictions the person captured can be charged with the death of a cohort in the commission of a felony.
