UPS for fridge?

Featured Replies

The heater between my fridge and freezer on upright Sharp fridge, burns out once a year.

I assume it is a power supply problem and not a systemic hardware issue.

I am renting a house without earth.

Is it possible to protect the fridge with a UPS?

I dont need the battery backup, just to protect it from burning out the heater.

Any advice appreciated.

cheers

Before spending any money.

Do you have a multimeter? If not go and buy a cheap one.

Check the voltage at the outlet, do it several times over a few days. You should see 220V +-10% ( 198V to 242V).

Anything outside that range either way could be contributing to the problem.

A small (1000VA) voltage regulator is likely to be more effective then a UPS.

ok thanks Crossy I can do that.

but isnt a voltage regulator in the same price range as ups?

I think they are harder to buy here. I am in samui

Yes, similar price levels.

Over / under voltage issues = AVR

Power failures / brown outs = UPS

Horses for courses, which is why you need to know what the problem is before defining a solution.

AVRs available at many of the DIY places, Global House seems to be favourite for choice.

The problem ive had here with other appliances is surge before/after power failures.

we dont have global house here. Only Homepro and PowerBuy which dont do AVR

We bought a chest freezer recently and the shop threw in a cheapo timed-delay protection circuit that is set for 15 second or 15 minute delay before allowing power to flow to the freezer once power is restored.
