Man jumps to death from Bangkok community building

By The Nation

A man said to be distressed over his inability to make a living jumped to his death from his room on the 16th floor of a Bangkok community building early on Friday, police said.

Singthon Kala, 58, died after he fell from his room onto the eighth floor, which is a parking lot, of the 26-storey Sinsub 26-7 Community Building on Soi Phai Singto in Bangkok’s Klong Toey district, said police.

The 380-unit building had been built by the Crown Property Bureau to house two communities of squatters removed from its land.

The man's daughter told police that her father lived with his wife in a room on the 16th floor while the daughter lives in another unit.

The daughter said Singthon has recently complained that he had a problem concerning his insurance document and so he could not rent a taxi to drive.

Police said the man also left a suicide note.
