Daily News went to interview a Thai grandfather in Ang Thong after reports that he had produced an unusual motorcycle.

Wichian Reuanthai, 67 - affectionately known as Ta Chian - never completed his education but has always had a love of engineering.

Through trial and error he has produced a bike that can run on solar power, engine power or pedal power.

His creation has cost the former tugboat worker from Nakorn Sawan just 20,000 baht to make a reality.

He is well known as the "P4 Englineer" in Pa Moke, Ang Thong after he left school in primary grade four before he was ten years old.

Wow, pedal power too. This shows why Thailand is so far ahead of the rest of the world.

But also solar power, haven't seen that on a tricycle yet. He should made a solar panel roof on that tricycle.

OK, give the guy credit for doing something interesting, but what he seems to have created here is a solar powered moped.  Nothing new here.

Moped,   - "a motorized bicycle that has pedals in addition to a low-powered gasoline engine designed for low-speed operation."

Mopeds have been around for decades. Basically he's added a small solar panel. As Thian said, if he put a large panel over the bike as a roof, he would have a better effect

He should have included a huge spotlight to run off the solar panel/battery to ensure power even in the dark!!!

I hope he’s beefed up the braking system.... I’d hate to see a story next week about a hybrid tricycle in a brake failure accident.

Yes, what hasn't finalised at the moment is getting the ABS system to work out of sunlight hours.

Maybe an electric trike or buggy that can be driven without a licence...

13km/h ample speed for Bangkok traffic, range 50km, put a solar panel to charge the battery and shade for the driver...

I love all you would-be fourth-grade engineers trying to diminish his task.

Correct, he might not have designed the next moon shuttle, but credit is due for his effort. Better than spending his days warming a bar stool and criticising.
