Having just rebooked via Travel Trolley once again (best online agent out there in my opinion) on Oman for January trip London Bangkok and they have changed the individual bag allowance.

Still 30kgs overall (unless you silver or gold cards and I have) but each bag no bigger than 15kgs each. Not a missprint

Contacted TT and they came back within an hour saying indeed luggage policy has changed on Oman and beyond their control and its clearly written on the eticket. I did notice on the Oman facebook group many comments over weight recently but didnt really take any notice.

You go with a 20 or 25kg bag and you simply aint flying with it unless you ditch gear or buy another bag at the airport

Sindbad members with higher weight allowances may be exempt judging by email from them but its not clear.

What is clear if you're casual traveller its two bags (if over 15kg all up) or you're up shit creek at check in. Am surmising its on all new tickets issued but not retrospectively

I think you may be wrong, nothing about individual bags, except at the very bottom, max 32 kg along with linear dimensions.

Would be difficult for Business/First to get to their 50 kg with their 2 bag allowance @ 15 kg per bag !

These are all above the paragraphs referring to higher memberships.

http://www.omanair.com/en/travel-info/baggage-services/allowance

Book or Fly with Oman Air check in 2 baggage pieces with a combined weight 30kg in Economy as your free baggage allowance.

Guests travelling or booking in Economy Class can check in max 2 baggage pieces with a combined weight 30kg free of charge.

Guests travelling on Oman Air’s award-winning Business or First Class: 2 bags with combined weight of up to 50kg

Trust me guys am not wrong.......lol

This was on the ticket which made me immediately contact Travel Trolley who confirmed indeed the change had taken place

1.
Positive Identification required at Check -In
2.
The Electronic Ticket record will not reflect flight reservation changes, schedule changes, or cancellations made after the electronic ticket was issued. for
complete and current flight information, please refer to your View Trip Itinerary
3.
Terms/conditions of travel and Carrier Liability Notice can be requested from the Travel Agency or the Transporting carrier
4.
All Departure and Arrival times are local time.
5.
For baggage allowance given in piece (PC), each single piece of baggage (1PC) will not exceed 15Kg. Baggage entitlement for an infant travelling will not be
more than 10 Kg.
6.
Passengers can check-in online on the airlines’ website. Most airlines’ online check-in is available between 24 hours to 2 hours before departure. Check

On the actual ticket instead where in the past it always had 30kg is now replaced with "2pc"

.....and the following received back from Travel Trolley as part of larger Email

"Kindly be advised that Oman Air has revised its baggage policy where the number of bags allowed i.e. 02 Pieces remains the same however the airlines has updated the weight per piece to 15 kgs each bag. Further we hope you understand that as a travel agency, we are required to adhere to the changes made by the respective airlines."

It is NOT on the OMAN AIR website !

Their website says

" max 2 baggage pieces with a combined weight 30kg"

How can a First/Business customer be allowed only 2 bags to make up their 50 kg allowance ?

The only mention is a max weight (as with most airlines) of 32 kg per individual bag.

I think your travel agent has got their knickers in a twist !

lol what on earth are you banging on about !!

This is an economy ticket period.

30kgs remains the overall weight limit (unless silver/gold card holder)

Each bag is limited to 15kg

Have had the agent reconfirm the very recent change

What is it you dont understand ??   In addition Omans facebook page is covered with the same issue 101 times lol

If you're business then indeed it may be different but I never claimed I personally was

I put the information out there to assist others who use economy on Oman

It is what it is and nobody has any knickers in any twist

OK @Chivas, kindly show me the link on the OMAN AIR website that shows anything apart from this.

Standard size and weight of each bag

Linear dimension: 158 cm/62 in (width + height + length)

Weight: No one single bag should weigh more than 32Kg.

Baggage that exceeds the standard dimensions and weight restrictions are subject to applicable fees.

Just found this from OMAN AIR in reply to Beatrice Leuker and Zee Igbal on their Facebook page ( 26th December )

Oman Air Hi Zee, Economy Class guests may check in 1 bag weighing up to 30kg or divide the total weight into 2 pieces. Kindly check our new baggage policy here

What on earth is your problem controller !!

The ticket is explicit something that I picked up immediately

Travel Trolley have confirmed that its a very RECENT change. Omans facebook confirm its a recent change

Sindbad Omans FF scheme after originally responding with an email that made no sense have no further responded confirming individual bag allowance of 15kg in ECONOMY

Thats the end of it. If you dont want to take notice thats up to you but I'm holding it my hand clear as mud. End of...no further input from me

I am sure the op has correctly posted his experience, and was good enough to show his ticket.yes traveltrolly who are part of Southall travel have confirmed the 15kgs issue, but did they check with Oman air, or just  take the easy/lazy  route and just repeat what is shown on the ticket, which must be incorrect.

think there is some thing amiss here, i find it hard to believe that any airline would put a 15 kgs weight limit for suitcases , but then allow 2 free of charge, something has been lost in 'translation ' here.

looking at Oman air facebook page, i see that 22 hours ago someone asked the question '' please confirm 2 piece luggage how many kg allowed each suitcasw''  Oman air replied 8 hours ago '' Economy Class guests may check in 1 bag weighing up to 30kg or divide the total weight into 2 pieces. Kindly check our new baggage policy here '' a link to the Oman air web site was attached

it would seem, in my opinion that the tickets are incorrect. and people are asking the question.i am also sure that it will come out in the wash so to speak.

Thing is apart from anything else the 30kg and 32kg limit is wrong. Baggage handlers are NOT obliged to dispatch a bag on any airline more than 23kgs and thats been in force least 2 years. Thats not saying they wont deal with it but they are not obliged to

Omans Ticket conditions say 15kg

Travel Trolleys follow up say 15kg

Omans Facebook say 15kg albeit looking this morning there are many contradictory posts over it

Sindbad itself says 15kg

Frankly what would you say is right !!  I will have my usual weight around 23/24kg but will carry a spare collapseable bag inside just in case.

Will update thread after outbound flights

I strongly suspect this is the correct interpretation. One bag up to 30kg or two bags each weighing no more than 15kg. It's probably been done to circumvent economy passengers turning up with two bags which combine to well over the 30kg limit.

i didn't see that, this page says nothing of 15kgs limit - http://www.muscatdaily.com/Archive/Oman/Oman-Air-amends-baggage-policy-allows-passengers-in-economy-class-to-carry-two-bags-51vb

if this 15kgs was in fact correct, there would be more posts on the web, but there is nothing, no links

Please do. We're looking at travelling from MAN with them in club next year. If we have to take 8+ suitcases between the four of us, I'll give Oman a miss.

where do you get that from, just a guess on your part?,

why not one bag 20kgs and the other 10kgs

Posted (edited)

Reading through all the Facebook, Oman Air and Muscat Daily stuff this is what seems to have happened.

Oman Air had a strictly enforced ONE BAG ONLY policy for Economy, with a limit of 30 kg.

They have changed this to a TWO BAG policy with a combined weight of 30 kg.

Some agents have interpreted this as a maximum of 15 kg per bag, which Oman Air themselves have refuted in the Facebook post.

The maximum of 32 kg per bag also applies to Emirates according to their website, although anything over 23 kg, in my personal experience, gets a "HEAVY" tag

Yes, definitely a mistake in the translation.

You can check in one or two bags. Previously it was just one bag.

As a Silver member, I get an allowance of 50 kgs. Of course I would have to spread that over two bags.

So not Chivas's fault. Just Chinese Whispers.

Have now received a lengthy email from Oman themselves no need to reproduce in entirety only that they apologise for a memo they have distributed to "some" agents in that whilst they have indeed switched to the 2 piece system for London Bangkok (not every routing) the memo had been interpreted by agents to suggest each bag must be no more than 15kg for basic economy passengers

That is incorrect and indeed the suggested maximum is 23kg for a single bag in line with baggage handlers requirements although Oman will accept a 30kg bag at check in albeit BH are not obliged to lift it if they so choose

Hopefully thats cleared that up.

Am now off to beat up Travel Trolley with a compo claim for £500 for having Thaivisa members shouting at me.........

So all TV members who told you to check with the airline directly in stead of your agent, to who you were rude and dismissive, were correct after all?

I didn't find Chivas to be rude at all.  We try to share useful info in these travel threads. There was some confusing info which Chivas highlighted. As a result of the discussions, we got to the bottom of it. There is plenty of trolling to be found elsewhere.

Disagree, posts 7 and 10 clearly were clearly rude.

But this is not worth it.

Where was I particularly rude. The fat controller was specifically referring to business class and I was pointing out this was economy

Even Omans Sindbad said the same 15kg.... The Ticket said clearly 15kg.......99% of people would clearly accept that as accurate and never even query it in the first place. Why would they. I was the exception in that I picked it up immediately as I happen to fully check each eticket carefully along with entering all sectors into amadeus to make sure all is as it should be

Oman admit a directive they sent out was either misunderstood or not clear in the first place. Thanks to me (and maybe others) doubtless another has been issued which is more clear

I sent another email to TT who responded rather blankly with "thats what they told us". No point flogging a dead horse there so I let that one ride

Just booked tickets in the big seats with Oman, and the checked luggage allowance is 2 x 25kg per person. Not that we'll be needing anywhere near that capacity going out to Thailand, but we'll probably need double for all the stuff the missus will be bringing back .
