Signal Failure

A young man had completed his training to be a signalman he had sat his written exam and was now having an oral exam.

The examiner said you see on your dispaly that two trains are heading towards oneanother on the same track what would you do?

He said that he would put both signals up and down the line on stop thus averting a crash.

The examiner said the signals are out of order then what?

He said that he would call the station staff at the stations nearest the oncoming trains and get them to stop them with red flage and lights.

He was then told that the phone lines were down.

No problem he said he would use his mobile phone.

He was told that there was no signal so it would be immpossibe to use a mobile.

In that case he said he would go and get his brother.

The examiner said why whats your brother going to do?

He said nothing but he's never seen a train crash either.
