Report Luxury Car Fraud Trial Begins in Ho Chi Minh City
Picture courtesy of VN Express In a high-profile case in Ho Chi Minh City, three men are facing charges of defrauding luxury car owners, with thousands of Thai Baht involved. Phan Cong Khanh, known as "Khanh Supper," along with Mohamach Da Pha, has been indicted for “fraudulent appropriation of property.” Their accomplice, Huynh Xuan Van, remains at large. Khanh and Van founded K-Super Trading and Services Co., Ltd. in 2019, specialising in luxury cars. Khanh served as the legal face of the company, with Van as deputy director and Pha as a collaborator. Facing financial struggles, the trio allegedly resorted to dubious activities to clear their debts. The scheme came to light when a woman named Huong entrusted her McLaren, worth approximately THB 10 million, to Khanh’s showroom to sell. Instead, Khanh and Van instructed Pha to pawn the car for around THB 4.2 million to release a previously pawned Mercedes G63. When Huong discovered her car was pawned and not sold, she alerted the authorities. The investigation revealed more victims. In 2022, Khanh sold a Mercedes Brabus G800, valued at THB 34 million, to a client in Phu Quoc. Later, he convinced the owner to lend both their McLaren and Brabus G800 for a showroom event, only to find out that Van had sold the Brabus without consent for THB 34.7 million. As the scandal deepened, Pha also confessed to selling a BMW for THB 2.6 million and subsequently pawning it to aid Van’s debt repayment. In July, Pha turned himself in, leading to Khanh’s arrest shortly after. Both men have admitted their wrongdoing, but Van remains elusive. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court is preparing to hear their case, leaving the community eager for justice for those affected by this luxury car scam. With significant sums and high-value assets involved, this trial underscores the importance of trust and transparency in luxury transactions. As the legal proceedings unfold, it is hoped that it will serve as a cautionary tale for both business operators and consumers. Adapted by ASEAN Now from VN Express 2025-07-11 -
