Prawit stonewalls questions about luxury watches

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has continued to refuse to comment over his possession of luxury watches and a diamond ring.

Prawit on Wednesday walked away from reporters at Government House when he was asked about a dozen luxury watches that he has been photographed wearing.

The deputy premier was caught by social media uses wearing a luxury watch about one month ago, leading to a deepening scandal as photos of him wearing other watches, including Richard Mille models reportedly costing more than Bt3 million, were posted online.

Prawit failed to disclose any watches or rings in his assets lists declared to the National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) in 2014 when he took office.

Under pressure by the public, the NACC launched an investigation into how and when Prawit acquired the assets that appeared in his possession and the deputy premier last week sent a letter to the agency purporting to explain how he obtained the watches.

The NACC has so far refused to reveal the details of the letter, but reports indicated that one Richard Mille watch was explained as having belonged to a recently deceased friend who had lent Prawit the item.

The toad is in the hole...... the toad is in the hole........ and all those expensive watches are telling him its really time to go.

"You know who I am, now get lost!!!"

I thought he said about a week ago he "borrowed" the watch and ring. ???

The biggest problem he has about those watches is that they were not obtained legally, so he does not comment so he dosnt incriminate himself.

He's desperately looking for the Burmese man who set him up with all those fakes.

I thought that issue was laid to rest.

They will never disclose the details. The NACC will probably state something like "The DPM has provided convincing explanations that cannot be disclosed because for personal reasons. Case closed!"

Is he not above the law and incrimination?........One of the chosen.

We all know how it works here.  Absolutely nothing, zilch, will come of this.

What a weasel - and probably feels unfairly attacked too. Alas, this kind of attitude is typical for people of his ilk, the over-fed, greedy, self-righteous political elite that only cries "democracy" and "rule of law" when it serves their vested, nefarious agenda.

They're probably "authentic copies"???......... so what's everyone agitated about, get over it!!

Everyone I know now believes that Prawit is corrupt. Based on the evidence, and the defening silence from the man himself, it's easy to understand why.

Prayuth find himself in a difficult predicament. Either cut his long time ally and friend loose, or lose as a large chunk of credibility, especially with regards to any fight on corruption he up until recently was talking about.

He doesn't have to explain anything. He wasn't voted in and him and his mates control the soldiers, the tanks and the guns. That's what happens when democratically elected governments are overthrown by military Juntas. The Junta huggers must be so proud supporting this lot for their own short term convenience.

There used to be a TV show where contestants got like 5 minutes to run through a supermarket filling their cart with groceries. When the buzzer sounded they got to keep all they had managed to stuff in the cart.

Hijacking the Thai government is kind of the same. The guys on top of the pyramid have so many years to grab as much as they can. When the final bell rings they get to keep all they’ve managed to cram into their pockets. That’s how the game has always worked.

So, it’s no surprise that Uncle #2 is …well…surprised. He’s just filling his shopping cart like all the other contestants and doesn’t understand why it’s all of a sudden an issue. After all, you can’t change the rules in the middle of the game…can you?

Would love to see this "Stonewall" General Prawit square off against the real "Stonewall" General Jackson. Maybe he'll throw a watch at him.

so one watch belonged to a friend that lent it to him then died so he kept it, how handy that is, isnt not returning something borrowed stealing......

He has credibility to lose?

probably more worried about losing his Line of Credit

Luxury watches are like cockroaches.  If you see one there are dozens in hiding.

Q. "What's the time, Mr Wolf ?" :whistling:

A. "Time to please change the subject, pretty-please, don't you know who I am ?"

"Nurse, we've got yet another one, who doesn't know who he is !"

Smoke and mirrors.......He really doesn't mind all the attention being lavished on him for a few watches......It takes the focus away from the more important ( to him ),  millions they are salting away while their noses are firmly entrenched in the trough.....

Who then conveniently kicked the bucket. No wonder he doesn't want questions to which he has no viable answers.

Hmm. There's a common thread there.

PErhaps not with you, but ys, he is very popular amongst certain segments of society. Others view him less favourably, but see that his government is making progress, or at least trying to, in certain areas.

Or National Security.

Those areas wouldn't include corruption then.
