Mother delivers stillborn son in traffic jam

By The Nation

A Prachin Buri woman caught in a traffic jam of motorists returning to Bangkok following the New Year break gave birth in a pickup truck on Wednesday night, but the baby was stillborn.

Panupong Khomkham 27, had hired the truck to take his wife, Bungorn Khonjuang, 34, to Kabin Buri Hospital, but by 8pm it was stuck in traffic.

A crew from the Sajja Buddha Dharma rescue foundation was summoned to help and found the baby already breaching.

On emerging, the infant boy had no pulse, and resuscitation efforts failed both at the scene and at hospital once an ambulance managed to get parents and son there.

Panupong said his wife had gone into labour during the evening and he’d taken her to Nadee Hospital, where doctors could detect no pulse.

They ordered that Bangorn be transferred to better-equipped Kabin Buri Hospital, but hours passed and nothing happened, Panupong said, so he hired the pickup, only to become stuck in the traffic.

Very sad indeed.
Unfortunaltely this is what happens, just because people in this country, even if it would have been a real ambulance with light and sound, just can´t bother to move aside.
