Taxi Pattaya

Featured Replies

Why the taxies in Pattaya do not have to use their meters?

I needed a taxi so in front of Central shopping mall i went to those taxies and he asked where u go i said to Soi Kao talo then he said it be fixed rate then i asked 4 more taxies and none of them was willing to go there by meter??

That's right. No meters here.

You can try Grab or Uber.

I think the reason is that in bkk most Thais arr taking the taxies so its more fair organized but in Phuket and Pattaya its mostly foreigners riding taxies so than its ok to get screwed. I got no other explanation.

The OP should be more concerned about the pedestrian situation on Soi Bukaow instead of Taxis in Pattaya.

Grab is the best but make sure you pick a pick up area which is not traffic in order for the grab to find u

Or just negotiate a rate that's amenable to both?

Grab or Uber will always be cheaper so I'd say never charter one of those fake taxi meters unless you really have to.

Point taken but as a visitor to Patts, I either walk or use the Baht Bus 99% of the time - cannot be bothered setting up a payment system with Grab or Uber for the possible 1 taxi requirement per year!  YMMV of course

You can pay cash here for both. No problema.

Really? Thanks JT - I didn't know that! I assumed (!) that it would be the same as in UK - in that case i may well set it up before i arrive in 2 weeks. If I need it it's there.

I'm on Android  - does one use a standard App Store app for either / both?

If you have any links peculiar to Pattaya, would you kindly post them please.

Google play. Grab is more straightforward with the cash option. If you're already on Uber with card from the UK I don't know if there is a separate app. I installed both apps in Thailand Android never with a credit card.

Thanks JT

I've installed Grab on my Thai phone - authenticated my email address but presently doesn't want to connect to server but that might be because I'm not in Thailand, using my UK WiFi.

I'll test it when I arrive. As i implied it's just a "nice to have"

What I do is make friends with the Grab driver he will always offer his service without using the grab all in your 2nd ride for cheaper than grab app :) anytime he will be at your service

Only the girls in Pattaya will turn on the meter not taxi [emoji765]
