PHUKET: Police are trying to hunt down the driver of a Mercedes-Benz that flipped and caught fire at the entrance of southbound side of the Samkong Underpass early this morning.

Capt Surachart Thongyai of the Phuket City Police was notified of an accident at the entrance of Samkong Underpass in front of Thanachart Bank on the bypass road southbound at 1:40am today (Jan 22).

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a black Mercedes Benz E350e overturned on the road with fire raging inside the engine and inside the car. No one was found in the car and it took firefighters 20 minutes to put out the fire.

A Mercedes E350e retails for 3.5 million baht to just over 4 million baht.  Nice ride to leave at the side of the road open and unattended.

Is it possible he borrowed it from a friend who is recently deceased? Seems to be the popular excuse this month!

Obviously the last thing on his mind (insurance ), & I'm sure it wasn't a problem as it is on its side burning so no possibility of stealing it or from it

Ukrainian man tested straight away- Thai disappears until police think he has it out of his system!

If someone steals the burning car it will be even easier to report it stolen and get the insurance money.

It was on fire, what harm could come to it by leaving it unattended?
