What is the recommended way to put a request for people with A Rh-negative blood in the Bangkok area to volunteer to give needed blood of this type, which is needed at this time for a retired veteran at the Bumrungrad International Hospital. At present they only have one unit available, with more needed. Any information appreciated.

Please send me the details i.e. where to donate and what patient (first name and hospital only) to indicate it is for.

Maje sure the donation site is acvurate -- sometimes it is posdible to donate at the hospital but often it can only be done at the Red Cross. We want to be sure any who respond don't meet with a runaround.

Thanks for your response.

The blood is needed at the Bumrungrad International Hospital. The patient name is Robert E. The operation is scheduled for 17:00 hrs today. Any information appreciated.

Please see my pm. More info needed.

I have edited your post to remove hospital number.

It is not usually possible to donate at the hospital except during periodic blood drives. To avoid people making unnecedsary trip to the wtong place please verify exact location for donstion. Usually it is the Red Cross National Blood Center.

I am A-neg but the Red Cross in Bangkok would not accept me a few months ago - no new donors over 60 is the rule. (and none at all over 70 is another rule.)

Otherwise I am happy to donate to Bumrungrad or anybody.

Apparently the Rh Neg is unknown in Thailand to all 4 blood groups.

Only 0.3% of the Thai population is RH negative. Hence it is always in short supply and this mainly affects western patients.

It is unfortunately true that Thailand has some rather excessive rules around blood donation and will not accept blood from people over 60, no matter how healthy, unless they have already been regularly donating blood (do not ask me why...).

Since resident expats living in Thailand skew towards the older age groups this makes it all the harder to find donors when someone needs RH- blood.
