Good thing the military stepped in to clean up corruption. Instead of making corruption illegal, they are just making it illegal to report on or investigate corruption.  Problem solved!

“A poll can only be done when an investigation ends,” said Pradit.  ...

An NACC member last week hinted that Prawit would be cleared of failing to declare the watches if the report that the watches were borrowed was found to be true. ...

Akanit quoted Prayut as saying the matter was Prawit’s “personal affair”, while according to the Constitution, issues in censure debates had to have consequences for the public and influence policy.

Thailand would do well if they could fine people like Arnond Sakworawich to lead them.

Thais shouldn't fine him. If he ran for office against this venal junta, then I reckon plenty of Thais would vote for him.

Arnond Sakworawich is a hero. A man of principal. I am not sure what he expected when he took the position. More than likely some lying worm told him he would be allowed total access, and be able to release real poll results. Once he found out he was being lied to, by a group of wannabe despots, who have zero, in the way of ethics, morality, or concern for the nation, he walked.

Good on him. A beacon of light in the desperately dark wilderness of Thai politics.

Utter rubbish. He is already tainted by the years of NIDA propaganda polls over which he presided which indicated more or less universal love for the Junta. He was a coup supporter. He left the sinking NIDA ship because he presumably knew the game is up.Full marks for being realistic but as a model for society, give us a break.

I agree! But he is still doing the right thing in this case no matter what his intentions are. I wouldn't blame him for previous wrongdoings if makes an acceptable decision in this case.

It could be that if one ignores most the facts. But since by his own account he had thrown his lot in some time ago with:

"a group of wannabe despots, who have zero, in the way of ethics, morality, or concern for the nation"

one has to question exactly how much "principal" was being deployed.More likely he resigned because (a) he is a professional who doesn't like being pushed aside by the .... licking senior  bureaucrats in NIDA and (b) he can sense which way the wind is blowing.

But not a beacon of light, not a hero and not a model for Thai society - though a decent intelligent man who had the wit on this occasion to take the right decision.

There is another possibility. He pointedly mentioned support of the coup and military government to disarm criticisms that his resignation was the action of political bias.On reflection that might be so.

"Freedom" in a feudal society does not apply to the serfs, however intelligent they may be.

"Freedom" applies only to the elite that allows them to do as they wish. :coffee1:

Hippity hoppity the Toad survives while good people walk away. The PM could fix this but won't. Thought that he stood for cleaning up this sort of thing, actions are more indicative of intent than words.

I'm not sure if I get your point here, but he had his photo in the BP today in PDRC garb and a whistle around his neck, so his political leanings aren't something he made up just now.

Personally I have trouble respecting anyone taking a job at NIDA.  Being an academic myself I get frequent invitations in my inbox to attend talks over there, and you couldn't pay me to go near those fake poll sellouts.

I think an earlier poster is onto something, that this is a split between factions beginning to show.

"I will submit the resignation tomorrow  morning. Academic freedom and honor are most important to me,"  he wrote.

Yet clearly his vision of ethics and honor is somewhat different to mine.

Given his support of the PDRC and the Junta, as he has freely written about on his FB page,  that freedom and ethics doesn't seem to have come into play when referring to suppression of free speech, political activities or any speech that is critical of the Junta.

This sudden outbreak of indignation over the suppression of an opinion poll, certainly didn't seem to cross his mind when he and the rest of the PDRC cronies disrupted and prevented a real election poll from taking place.

Now the zealots on both sides can argue Ad Nauseum over how free and fair any election held in Thailand really is, but however free or not is may be, it's a helluva lot more relevant than any Nida 'opinion' poll.

So this guy is being touted by many on TVF as the great beacon of morality and 'beacon of light'...give me a break. He has just fallen from Grace within the elite, for whatever reason we won't ever know, but given the recent indictment of a certain other leading light of the PDRC, maybe the fractures are turning into yet another internecine fight within the 'club'

....btw, I lifted the pic from FB

I didn't know that so thanks for the background. My "favourable" hypothesis doesn't hold in that case - he's just another middle class elitist though probably more intelligent than most and to give him a bit of credit, he did the right thing in this instance.

That's c-o-j-o-n-e-s actually. De nada.

Yeah, I actually looked up the spelling after I posted and since the dictionary used both, I was too lazy to correct it :sorry:
