Community School Boy Found Dead Floating in Chao Phraya River

The body of a 17-year-old school student was discovered floating in the Chao Phraya River near the Borom Mongkol Police Station, leaving family and friends shocked and seeking answers. Police were alerted by members of the public who spotted the body near a boat dock. Rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and forensic officials from Siriraj Hospital attended the scene. The victim was found wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and dark sweatpants and was later identified as a student at a well-known school in the Samsen area. The student’s parents reported him missing on 21 August, after he failed to return home. Teachers described him as cheerful, sociable and well-liked by his peers, with no history of conflicts. His mother recalled that while he was lively at school, he tended to be quiet at home, often not sharing details about his day. The student’s father expressed disbelief over the incident, noting that his son was a competent swimmer and he could not understand how such a tragedy could occur. Police have handed the body to Poh Teck Tung Foundation rescue workers for transport to Siriraj Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Accident Lorry Carrying Fertiliser Crashes After Brakes Fail on Descent

A ten-wheel lorry transporting fertiliser from Kanchanaburi to Khun Yuam district, Mae Hong Son, lost its brakes while descending a steep mountain road in Mae Ho, Mae Sariang district, with the driver steering it into a roadside embankment, to avoid a more serious collision. The crash occurred on Highway 108, between kilometre markers 175 and 176, near Ban Pa Chi Lang in Mae Ho. The lorry, registration from Lamphun, slammed into the embankment after the driver, unable to stop the vehicle, made the split-second decision to steer off the road. Rescue teams from the Mae Sariang Emergency and Rescue Association, along with police, hospital staff and disaster prevention officers, rushed to the scene. The driver was found trapped in the cab for over 30 minutes before being cut free and taken to Mae Sariang Hospital with injuries. Mr Somboon, a passenger accompanying the driver, told investigators they had loaded fertiliser in Kanchanaburi for delivery to a shop in Khun Yuam. As it was the driver’s first time travelling this route, Somboon joined him for support. They had stopped briefly in Mae Ho before continuing the descent. Shortly afterwards pulling away, the driver reported that the brakes were failing. Somboon, seated beside him, stated he jumped out in an attempt to block the wheels, but the steep incline made it impossible to slow the vehicle. “The lorry picked up speed very quickly going downhill. The driver relied on his experience and swerved into the roadside embankment to stop it. That’s why he ended up injured and trapped in the cab,” Somboon explained. Picture courtesy of Matichon A dispute over a wrongly delivered seafood order escalated into a violent brawl in Pattaya, leaving two men hospitalised and police hunting several suspects. The incident unfolded on the evening of 22 August inside a gated community on Soi Khao Talo, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, after a 4,000-baht order of steamed crab was mistakenly delivered to the wrong address and eaten by unsuspecting neighbours. CCTV footage shows nearly ten people storming into the residence and attacking its occupants. The victims have been identified as a 34-year-old Chinese-Cambodian tenant and his gardener, whose nationality has not yet been confirmed. Both remain in hospital with serious injuries. Police say the dispute began when a Chinese woman in her 60s, the mother of the homeowner and known locally as “Ama”, ordered the expensive seafood via a Chinese restaurant app. When the meal failed to arrive, the restaurant confirmed it had already been delivered, to the wrong house. Ama went to the neighbouring property to inquire, only to be told bluntly: “We’ve eaten it, so what?” She then called her son, who arrived with a group of friends and relatives. The confrontation quickly spiralled into violence, with the group assaulting the tenant and his gardener before fleeing. On 24 August, one of the suspects, identified as 45-year-old Thai gardener Wanchai “Nok”, who worked for the Chinese family, surrendered to police. He admitted committing the assault, saying he had “acted out of anger” after hearing about the missing crab order. However, Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Thana Wisetchai of Nong Prue Police Station said CCTV evidence clearly shows multiple attackers. Officers are now urging the other suspects, including the Chinese homeowner, to surrender and face charges. Authorities confirmed that all those involved will be prosecuted under the law.
