Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan is not going to step down, but will carry on with his responsibility and duty to ensure national security and public safety, said Defence Ministry’s spokesman Lt-Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich on Monday.

Commenting on the criticism and calls for General Prawit to resign over the expensive wristwatch scandal, Lt-Gen Kongcheep said the criticism and calls for his resignation constituted expression of opinions in a democratic society that all parties concerned should respect and listen with impartiality and should consider constructively.

Reminding the people of the bitter experiences they have gone through and the common lesson they have learned, the spokesman said that tolerance and reasoning would be the two elements which would enable the people to overcome their difficulties.

So another lie to add to their already impressive resumé, not that anyone was expecting otherwise. The middle finger is once again extended towards the Thai people.

"General Prawit (decides) to stay on to ensure national security"

What a supreme sacrifice by Khun Prawit, he should be hailed as a national hero. His name will be written in golden letters in the annals of world history.

thailand continues to sink , both absolutely , and in international eyes that care, this group really, really has to go;

and the continuing shame is that this country does not exhibit one whit of ability to improve

   Or in other words: let these people do what they want with your money and shut up. How does this watch fetishist ensure national security?

Not surprise even though he categorically said that he will resign if not wanted. This junta government is not to be trusted with their promises and assurances. They not leaving any time soon and it is up to the Thais what they going to do about a untrustworthy and corrupt regime. History beckons.

A general who has never experienced real combat (except maybe from a few peasants and unarmed students) is who the country "needs" to ensure security. Jesus weapt ??

But he did survive military academy. ?

Looking forward to the photos of him in uniform, camouflage paint, heavy backpack, rifle and ammunition belts patrolling the borders keeping those imminent threats from Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Malaysia at bay.

When he meets his colleagues can they keep a straight face?  He, and the other selfless 'good' people are the threat to peace.

He makes a lot of sense.

Since he has been in power there has been no fighting or rocket attacks or bombs aimed at children or red shirt road blocks.

He is doing a good job.

Hopefully he will stay around for years to come.

No bombs. Apart from the ones in Bangkok, Hua Hin, Samui, Surat Thani and the ongoing civil strife in the deep south. Yeah, great job. A real record to be proud of...
