The first modern Briton had “dark to black” skin, groundbreaking new analysis of his 10,000-year-old remains has revealed.

Britain’s oldest complete skeleton, known as Cheddar Man, was unearthed more than a century ago in Gough’s Cave in Somerset.

But an unprecedented examination of his DNA, along with a facial reconstruction of the fossil, shows the young man would have had a darker complexion than previously thought, along with blue eyes and dark, curly hair.

Given everyone originated in Africa, is that surprising?

  • Looking around, nothing much has changed since then. Except the blue eyes.

Let's see this article for what it is - more virtue signalling - attempting to paint everything black and de-legitimise white skinned people.

Well if people want to be pedantic all life on the planet originated as single celled organisms in the sea.

Highly unlikely, IMO, that humans originated spontaneously in cold climates of the north, and the DNA path from Africa was discovered long ago.

IMO, whether several varieties of human originated in different areas of Africa and combined is irrelevant to us all coming from common ancestors.

You may be right when it comes to the authors of the OP attempting to "blackify" everything, but that does not change the point of my post that we are all the same under the skin.

Or more accurately trying to give a proper picture of evolution. If mankind originated in Africa, which appears to be the case, then dark skin would obviously be selected for as it keeps out harmful uv rays, where light skin is preferable up north for the opposite reason. It would take some time for lighter skin to mutate and be selected for. Makes perfect sense, unless your a white nationalist, in which case welcome to the real.

Let's not.

Smarter and healthier to see it as a reminder that we're all human with common ancestors, and that most of our differences are only skin-deep.

By the way, this scientific report may de-legitimize white supremacist thinking, but fail to see how it de-legitimizes white people in general.

Ignoramuses who reject scientific research when it doesn't agree with their political agenda.

You misunderstand the Hawks article, he's not saying modern humans didn't originate in Africa, just that the development of modern humans is more complex and less linear than previously thought. Recent discoveries suggest several different hominin groups coexisted, and probably interbred, out of these parallel and intermingling streams modern humans evolved.

Our origins remain in Africa.

No - just science updating us.

Our differences are more than skin deep.

African Americans dominate running sports, Caucasians dominate swimming sports, Asian athletes dominate... errr... let me get back to you on that.

There are very obvious physical differences between the races.

Most non-Africans, for instance have Neanderthal DNA. In other words, many people are mixed to some extent with a different species/sub-species. Asians are similarly mixed with a different sub-species.

See more here: https://phys.org/news/2016-03-world-neanderthal-denisovan-ancestry-modern.html

So no - the differences between the races are not "skin deep". It's just not politically correct to say that.

People left Africa half a million years ago, it has little to do with that, there were white people in Northern Europe 10,000 years ago, but not in Britain, those people were black.

Uhm... in the article Hawks' states that the stem for modern humans originated in Africa. Less linear than previously believed but no change in our roots.

Psuedoscience at it's finest.

Cheddar Man is the oldest human remains ever found in Britain, turns out he was black, therefor the oldest Briton was black, no one has tried to claim that all Britons were black at the time, just the one that has been tested, so actually no pseudoscience at all.

I didn't know 'virtue signalling' and 'de-legitimise white skinned people' were scientific terms

So now do we all go and stake a claim in Africa? I am sure my block was under a skyscraper

Africa?  What?  The article is about their skin, Britons skin were black.

Actually the OP linked article states - horror of horrors -

His ancestors migrated to Europe from the Middle East after the Ice Age. Britain has been inhabited ever since and today about 10 percent of White British people are descended from the group.

What is most amusing about the response to this article is the way that people instantly use it as opportunity to vent their racist vitriol.

Anyone who thinks that someone is defined by their colour needs to be pitied rather than pilloried.  In this case colour has nothing to do with ethnicity or religion or anything else that the racists get their knickers in a twist over.

Kilroy unearthed at last ! Gough,s is a great cave, remains of sabre toothed tigers and all sorts of goodies, all in the finest part of UK !

So this is what happens when you get 10,000 Years of nothing but rainy and foggy weather.

Your skin turns White!

But who would have thought that all Brits have a little bit of "Aunt Jemima" in them?

In a 1000 years they will say Vancouver was inhabited by Chinese and east indians and no falangs
