Isan Farang
Went to Makro Ubon to check on the Beer Lao stock, looked everywhere only to discover in now comes in a new box. The cost has also increased to 1.535 Baht per box of 24 x 330ml

Durio
Sorry but I am confused. Are you suggesting that you paid 1535 THB for 24 beers? That is almost $62 Australian dollars!
RobFord
My favorite beer in Asia is Beer Lao Dark. It cost 1250 baht a couple of years ago, and now its 1535.
Popular Post Durio
I am familiar with that beer having had it in Laos and Vietnam on several trips. I agree it is nice. Put I can buy a box of quality premium beer (on special ) for 2/3 of that price. I am in Australia and am STUNNED to learn that the beer is that price. 2
Randell
Yes somehow Beer lao has priced it self right out of the market. Yes it's great beer but the price is ridiculous.
Durio
It makes no sense to me at all given how close Issan region is to Laos. I understand why a quality beer from Belgium or Germany is expensive in Thailand but I really do not understand the pricing at all. Is Thai beer really that bad? Popular Post gwynt
It's not Beer Lao that is out pricing it's self it is the Thai taxes. (Beer Monopolies) 11 2

The increase is mainly tax, which is a bit strange as Laos is part of Asean.
Durio
Well I suppose such a taxation schedule will only facilitate the growth in micro-breweries. I have heard a few whispers that are starting to get some traction in Thailand.
Randell
Not so many years ago you could buy a case of Beer Lao for 400 Baht only slightly higher than local beer at that time the 1500 Baht can't all be all due to taxes
Popular Post PREM-R
Large Beer Lao (64cl) in Vientiane 'M Mart' (similar to 7-11) 9,000 Kip (about 34 baht). Price in Thailand is clearly affected by Thai taxes. 4
Morch
The new boxes are even dodgier than previously. Got a couple and the bottom wasn't only poorly taped, but there was a gap about an inch wide covered in nothing but a double layer of adhesive tape. It's a nice beer though, much superior to the local brands.
Durio
There must be some money to be made if you could find a way to bring a few hundred boxes over the Mekong!
MJCM
Tops is selling 1 bottle of Dark Beer Lao for 68 THB, unfortunately in our Local Makro (Buriram) Beer Lao (Dark) has been absent for a while now [emoji20]
Randell
Prem-r I wasn't trying to argue I totally agree that ultimately its Thai taxes that are doing it but the price still seem out of sync with other imports that's all I ment but thanks for the current price in Lao
Goanna
Tops at central world Ubon, would only sell a box at single price. 3 years ago in Siem Reap Cambodia, beer Lao 1 usd, same as Angkor, but a friend in Cambo says only 50 cents in the village. amdy2206
Beer Laos is so cheap here in Laos. A big bottle of normal around 45B in a Lao restaurant (about half what the same size of Leo is in Thailand) and the same in shops - foreigner bars around 60B. Small dark and gold similar prices. It is not the beer price, it is the import taxes.

On Oct 17 Makro was charging 1.310 for the dark, and the lady told me yesterday it had been increased to 1.535 Perhaps Villa had some old stock, or the sell buy date was getting close.
