PHUKET: Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong yesterday (Feb 16) convened a meeting of government officials where he called on them to strictly enforce the tour bus safety measures implemented after a spate of accidents in mid-2017.

(See story here)

The meeting, held at the Governor’s House, was attended by Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) Chief Banyat Kantha as well as officials from the Phuket Tourism and Sports Office and Phuket Tourist Police.

Gov Norraphat said, “There are too many bus accidents in Phuket and nearby provinces and most of these buses are transporting foreign tourists. We have prevented many accidents by checking that buses are mechanically sound and by limiting the number of hours bus drivers can work."

My God this Govenor means business, he has given the bus operators a good "urge".

What more enforcement could be needed?

Well  the same for the tourist boats i assume....every week huge accidents will take it's toll in the foreign newspapers

Another meeting to work out what any normal truck/bus operator should know. follow the speed limit, don't use phone while driving, use gears and or exhaust brake to descend hills not just foot brake, have rest stops and most importantly  don't do drugs

We know what the problem is, no one knows how to drive heavy vehicles down hill.

Urges this, urges that...focuses on inane issues, meanwhile, nothing of any importance affecung us changes. Same same, no difference.... just like his foregoers.

Much "urging" but very little action, as usual.

What does a Governor do (apart from "urging")? Sit around and just collect monies? :whistling:

Leadership starts at the top - Mr Governor!!

Sorry, but you are wrong.

The problem is that no one knows how to drive a heavy vehicle.

A further amendment. :coffee1:

Don't need to have a committee meeting on it gents. Safety 101, get a grip on the drivers and then problem solved...nothing wrong with the buses or roads.
