Mind Your Language TV Series

Not sure which forum I should use.

I use this old UK TV series sometimes when teaching mature students / or trying to explain something about culture etc.

I am from the UK, in my early 70's so am well aware of the issues shown in the series and, that they continue today.

I am trying to find Series 4 which was produced in 1986.

Have tried 'youtube' and one or two other sites but it is not available.

Can anyone suggest where I could look ?

A great fun show, every non-PC stereotype imaginable, oddly enough it's still very popular in India.

From an (admittedly quick) google search it seems the series-4 was lost forever (apart from episode 1) in a studio fire. Apparently S4 wasn't nearly as good as the original anyway.

I thought "Curry & Chips" was great, but in this day and age arrests would be made..Spike Milligan at his best...:stoner:

What about "Love Thy Neighbour" with all the nig-nogs? That would never see the light of day today.

Many Thanks 'Crossy' for your reply.

Yes, the stereotyping was, at that time, a way to laugh at ones self ( being English ) and others, without being called a racist, or being a racist or slurring anothers culture.

I did notice many episodes are from an Indian source.

Other series around the same time also portrayed different peoples.

Thanks for the info about the fire.

I guess your nig-nogs is the next slang term following the original one.    Me, I love to hear the cockney slang by the cleaner in Mind Your Language, difficult to try and explain the reason for the meaning to foreign students.

Yes, the late 60's and the 70's were a time when one could be different - I guess I would have been classed a hippie.

It was a time of easy to find work in the UK and other countries, independent press, writers of the beatnik era etc, more independence from parents, not bound by babies as happened in the early 60's.

I am glad I lived through such times and feel sorry for those whose time will probably never come.
