North Road ‘big dig’ underway

PATTAYA:--The Provincial Electricity Authority has begun burying power lines on North Road.

PEA Pattaya director Niruth Charoenchob and Mayor Anan Charoenchasri were on hand when the first jackhammer hit the ground near the Dolphin Roundabout Feb. 19.

Work is expected to finish by the end of May.

Anan said the city checked up on the contractors while they escorted equipment and machinery to the site to make sure they weren’t holding up traffic.

Also, some utility posts had to be removed for the works. He also urged drivers not to park along North Road and obstruct work crews.

Following the model it used on Central Road last year, the utility’s contractor, Burapa Technical Engineering Co., will close 200 meters of one lane going each direction on North Road.

Nice if they worked on the entrances and exits to T21 while they are at it. Looks like they could add a traffic turning lane with the median removed for the cable burial.

You mean a u-turn in the median opposite T21.

Yes that would be a good idea..............if they wanted to create a traffic disaster.

You don't just ask them not to park and hope for the best because that is a complete waste of time. No parking signs with warnings need to be put up and any vehicles that are in the way and parking removed!

It is about time they stopped pussyfooting around!

I was thinking more of a double turn lane into T21 but as far from Dolphin Circle as possible.

This seems to me to be a professionally run scheme that has been ongoing for a couple of weeks already. There is good signage, works and machinery are barriered off, safety wear is in evidence and disruption to traffic is minimal. It is specialised work with specialised kit and the contractors seem to be very competent. Trenches are being drilled underground to minimise traffic disruption.

There is already a U turn in place near Fairtex and the traffic lights at Tesco always seem to be working. This contractor are solely responsible for the relocation of the overhead cables and wires. Credit where credit is due.

If you do want to see an example of unsafe and untidy working, just go round the corner to Naklua Road where a different contractor is laying water pipes. Plant, materials and waste are strewn accross the footpath. Safety wear and safe working in general seem to be alien concepts.

Within a matter of a few metres there are 2 jobs with standards at the opposite ends of the scale. The works on Pattaya Nua are a good example of how works should be carried out and the works on Naklua Road are a template of how not to run a scheme.

I agree. The city and police are impotent. Tow the miscreants and make them pay big for double parking, blocking driveways and sidewalks. The violators only react to big fines, but without enforcement nothing will change.

No matter what they do, Pattaya administrators always get it wrong.

Far as I know it's still high season. This should be done in low season.

Why is this necessary in the first place ??. Most ridiculous thing ive seen all week.  They could have just strung these cables along the dolphin lamp posts . Instead they are doing this un necessary major project. Havent  they got anything better to do. Now the  songkows from Naklua have  to make the U turn all the way to 3 rd rd. for going to Pattaya. Seems whenever they" finish" these so called burying cable wasted projects there are still cables strung along.
