Where to buy a zipper?

I need a new zipper for my coat.

Where can I find a shop in Bangkok that sells zippers?

 

Apparently the kind of zipper I need is a bit special, because the Indian shops around lower Sukhumvit couldn't help me.

So it has to be a bit of a specialized zipper shop. Not a normal sewing material shop.

There is a shop selling a very large assortment of sewing supplies and materials on Sukhumvit 77, Soi On Nut.

Not easy to spot.  On the right side of 77, about 100 yards from Sukhumvit but before Big-C.  Suggest you have a Thai friend write "Sewing Shop" in Thai on a piece of paper you can show to a street vendor.  Old shop so they all know it.

 

I'm sure you could also find zippers in Praturnam.

Thanks dddave. I went to Pratunam today, and spend a few hours hunting for a zipper. Found some small ones, but not the sturdy 80cm zipper that I need.

Will check out On Nut.

It's a very well stocked store so I think they will have what you need.  

As I warned, easy to walk past and not notice.  My friend is learning to make some stuff with Cordura and this place had the special thread he needed but we had to ask a street vendor to point it out.

If you take the BTS, Go out Exit 1 and walk against traffic to Suk 77, keep on the right side.

Very well stocked indeed, but they didn't have the zipper I'm looking for.

I just happened on to this place yesterday. I was amazed when I went in there and looked around. I wasn't looking for zippers of course but they have sewing supplies there and fabrics like you would not believe. It isn't a bargaining place but very reasonable. Went to Sampeng Lane today.

4-5 shops have a big selection of zippers, buttons, etc.   Mostly short zippers though.

Found one that will have to do.

Sorry you didn't find exactly what you were looking for but at least you found something to hold you over until you do. I just stumbled onto that Lane, it is interesting though, didn't you think? I was over in that area looking for dried stevia leaves as an alternative to sugar and substitutes for sweetening ice tea. I found it across from a Temple just down the street from there, have been using it and love it. I also buy a herb over there that I use for tea, it is great without the caffeine. Anyway thanks for your update.

believe that I'd find a tailor or a clothes alterations shop to do the new zipper installation and then have them find the correct replacement item...forget them dudes on sukhumvit, all they wanna do is to sell you a cheap suit for as much money as possible...they can't be bothered with a zipper...

 

some laundries/dry cleaners will offer the service that you require...check them out...there may be a sign that says: 'Alterations'...usually very reasonable...
