13 things I miss about living back in the UK

Apart from a pint or two of real ale sipped outside a quaint country pub during a long summer evening and a proper English ruby murray there is very little I miss about England.

Thr bread here in thailand is virtually inedible, even the so  called multigrain, multi seeded are pale imitations. Your comment about overcooked is just a stereotype-you can cook for yourself and order rare steaks (not buffalo). I’m more worried about the reports of widespread insecticide contamination on vegetables here.

I make my own bread out of the four basic ingredients, its really quite simple

Miss in USA

- American football

- Baseball

- Las Vegas

- Swims at northern lakes void of death-dealing creatures

- Flour biscuits right out of the oven covered in milk gravy made with sausage.

- Giant ham steaks

- Pumpkin pie

- Trick or Treater's at the door

- Yosemite national park

- Lake Tahoe in the High Sierra.

(Canadian bonus - Vancouver, best summertime city in N. America)

British food!?!? LMAO! You have to be kidding. Why when I walk around Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Athens, Istanbul , Bangkok, Tokyo, Boston etc are there NO  British restaurants all over? Yes there are pubs lol and British sounding tatoo shops.  Even the States has famous barbecue, lobsters, chowder and  hamburgers  you can find around the globe.  Was just at a resort at Karon beach not a Brit in sight there was a bread budding and at the end of the breakfast hour no one took a piece. Put a piece of bread pudding and a simple ice cream Sundae in front of 5 British kids and I bet they will all take the Sundae if told they could pick just one desert!

Christmas? Is he kidding! Big wind up I think.

Please tell me you are joking. Every school has activities for Christmas, every shopping mall has Christmas stuff up and selling.

The trouble is the schools are open Christmas and it is just like any other unless you are in an international school, nothing beats a Christmas back home.

I miss scraping the ice from the windscreen in the morning.  But, I suppose I'll just have to live here without that stimulating habit; sometimes, life really sucks!

What stops you from scraping the ice from your windscreen every morning in Thailand ?

English food?? The poster must be joking. Especially when he talks about bread. They overcook all their meat and their vegetables are tasteless. In fact, you'll find better English food in Thailand. I have met a few who make such claims. But they like bland food. The only food I miss is Kippers, and salmon, but they are from Scotland!

I always order my steak just as I like it, not overcooked, perhaps these people you have met should try eating in a decent establishment.

USA: What I miss; A great hardware store. Where i can buy everything for a job in one trip for a reasonable price. I miss being able to go to a common store and buying most common medical aids like aspirin or pain relievers. I miss spring and fall colors. Nothing else do I miss. That's why I left.

Tramadol and paracetamol widely available.

I can buy antibiotics and viagra in Thailand, which I can't do in the USA or UK.

Aspirin is much easier on the stomach, and good for many things, including your heart. Tramadol and Paracetamol are not. New Skin, a liquid bandage, can be bought even at a 7-11 or comparable store. I get a lot of small infections from cuts here. I can't even find band aids at Tesco. Have to go to a pharmacy. I also miss doctors who do not give you antibiotics for everything under the sun!

I saw the thread title and in a blinding flash of clairvoyance surmised it was going to be another desperate Dan effort.

Opened the thread and presto...Cheeseman at work turning milk into cheese.

I don't agree with crowd funding but if someone starts one up to get Dan solvent enough to give blogging and vlogging up , I will contribute.
