Over 4,000 people in Songkhla suffer diarrhoea this year

People in Songkhla are being warned to be careful what they eat after thousands were struck down by diarrhoea in the first two months of this year.

Doctor Uthitsak Hariratanakul, chief public health officer in the southern province, said 4,166 people suffered from diarrhoea from January 1 to March 3.

Most of them came from Hat Yai, he said, while Sadao and Sathing Phra were the districts with the second and third highest number of affected people.

The biggest group of patients were newborns to 4-year-olds.

I don't know what the usual rate of illness is in the region - but if this is exceptionally high (and it does look high) and it's mainly babies - then perhaps there's a common cause?  Water?  Infant formula?  I'm guessing, but I think in some regions people will use tap water to mix with milk powder to save money?

................mostly on a Friday evening during waffle hour.

Now that we know how many suffer, can we get some figures on how many enjoy it?

It's running it's course around Bangkok as well, with preschoolers. It's often attributed to Rotavirus, which also includes vomiting. Very serious if not kept hydrated. Be sure to go to clinic ASAP.
