Hawkings was offered a knighthood, but turned it down, citing the governments mismanagement of science funding,

Unfortunately Nicholas Clegg did accept a knighthood at the same ceremony as RINGO, in spite of his refusal to accept the democratic vote of the British electorate at the E.U. referendum. Which leaves me to think the whole honours system is now too corrupted by politicians,
