has anyone else noticed the increasing numbers of idiots driving crap bikes with REALLY LOUD exhausts on them?

I am looking forward to the low season when they all disappear back to "euro" land, take off their super tough biker gear and go back to tossing burgers at Burger King or beaing a "bean counter"

the tough as nails image is laughable, same as the noisy buckets of crap that they feel they have to rev the nuts off everytime they are anywhere where there are people

don't they realise that people don't look over in envy, they are looking over thinking "tosser"

its not even as though you get to look at a really nice bike, normally they are low buget JRD's with some chrome on and slash cut pipes, maybe they are making up for lack of something else................

So nothing's changed in the last few years then.

It was always hard to suppress a grimace of

delight when another Marlon Brando wannabe

rolled into the soi on his Harley lookalike.

One question , if there are any aficionados

out there , is it absolutely necessary to

have them clear their obviously badly

congested throats for a full 10 minutes

before popping into first and puttering

off at 15kph? The vibrations tend to

make the beer glass skitter all over

the glass coffee table top.

i was driving down the beach road one day when this idiot was behind me revving and revving his engine over and over and over again. it was driving me nuts.

each time he did it, he would look at the girls on the side of the road and give them a sleazy look as if to say 'big bike big balls' (crass but true).

anyway, he overtook me, saw i was farang and gave me a dirty look full stop. (i dont care how big his balls are really). so he revved and revved over and over again, but this time there was a cop right in front of him! straight onto the radio to the next BIB up the road.

i laughed my head off when i saw him stopped by BIB on the next corner. bet he felt like he had been dumped into a bath of cold water then. shrivelled to the size of raisins i suspect!

I don't know how these people end up like it. It's bad enough having to watch the same old 'never been on a bike before' fools in their twenties nearly falling off their hired rehashed for the 1000 th time big bikes week in week out. But when you see them still doing it at 55 years old you do have to wonder where were heading as a race.................................

What about the people who genuinely like riding bikes?

I learnt to ride last time I was in Thailand for 3 months, and the last bike I hired in Phuket happened to have a loud exhaust. But on the other hand I genuinely enjoy riding.

hey, i have nothing against bikes with loud exhausts having had many over the years including one with a nice set of termi's BUT there is a time and palce for opening them up etc

in front of the 7-11 etc is not that place

blipping the thrittle incessantly as you have a badly adjusted idle (or a small d_i_ck) is also incredibly annoying

just as the 1000 cc hero's are as they tank it along the straight strectch and then get overtaken on the corners by people on mopeds and they can't ride worth a sook.

Have to be in a big noisy gang as most of em scared to venture out alone.

Its nice that they don't all sit posing on their big shiney willy substitutes in the middle of Bangla Road now. I used to be so embarrassed for them as they thought they looked so cool and that all the tourists were admiring them. They weren't lads, they were sniggering at how a bunch of middle aged men could all were the same clothes on a night out!

All that revving up though, it's tragic, it really is. Easy rider was 40 years ago, so let it lie in peace, with Hotel California, Steppenwolf and all the other crap music that pollutes certian bars in the area.

Loud pipes save lives

i just love my loud bike,

Dupont. that was good music.

not if someone beats you to death with a pick axe handle cos they have finally had enough of all the d__ick heads that think loud pipes in built up areas are cool.

My 150 yamaha scooter has never been passed by a Hardly Davidson. It, on the other hand eats em in the bends.

What is about Thailand, one of the thing that brought me here in the first place, was freedom that I really didn't have in the states. But the other side of the coin is that other people have that as well. Sometimes I would rather not see the activity. However I don't expect them to change what they do to make me happy.

Please don't change Thailand I liked it when I moved here it's OK with me if something doesn't go exactly as I like it.

Yes I do ride a bike and sometimes when it's cold I wear a leathe jacket. I really enjoy touring and the views I at from riding. You don't want to then don't after all it is my hobby not yours and I certainly don't expect you to be like me.

im all for safety when riding. i dont ride mysel (blouse that i am) but i cringe when i see people without helmets on driving like idiots.

i think that leather jackets etc are smart when riding. the amount of people i see in phuket wearing just a bikini or pair of shorts is astounding. ive seen some pretty horrid accidents in my life, and if you can prevent some pain and suffering by wearing something sensible, then go for it.

the only thing i dont like is people revving and revving for no reason. it drives me nuts. but then again, maybe i am picky.

the funny thing is that the things that make me cringe one day are the exact same things that make me laugh the very next day.
