That, of course, was the whole point of the exercise.

Well, if all the students organized as a common voting block they could vote people out or in.  And if the senior citizens all organize as a common voting block, they could vote people out or in.  And the same thing for any other group of peoples, be they engineers, or Christians, or Government employees or whatever. But the same likes and dislikes are rarely the same across all the different groups.  I bet a lot of those students have parents that love guns.  Gee, kids and parents disagreeing on an issue.  Nothing new there.  I would bet a lot that most of those students are not registered voters

It seems this may be having a negative effect on gun manufacturers:

(Reuters) - Remington Outdoor Co Inc [FREDM.UL], one of the largest U.S. makers of firearms, filed for bankruptcy protection on Sunday to carry out a debt-cutting deal with creditors amid mounting public pressure for greater gun control.

The company's chief financial officer, Stephen Jackson, said in court papers that Remington's sales fell significantly in the year before its bankruptcy, and that the company was having difficulty meeting requirements from its lenders.

Remington, America's oldest gunmaker, announced in February it would reduce its $950 million debtload in a deal that will transfer control of the company to creditors.

Doesn’t change the validity of the message. If you wish to know how serious they and their movement are, visit their website faq:

Soooo, they are "serious" about gun ownership, which won't make an iota of difference next time someone wants to shoot up a school, but where are the mass marches against pollution which is actually killing everyone, or on the wars that the US carries out in foreign climes?

IMO this movement will go the same way as the 70s "summer of love".

The NRA and the Government need to see that the world is changing and US society is changing. If they would just act in accordance with peoples wishes and just instigate some sensible robust Gun controls like proper background checks and registration of all weapons it would appease the masses.

Far as I know the NRA is carrying out the "wishes" of it's members. It's not obliged to take into account the "wishes" of non members.

Also, the NRA is not able to make laws, so it's not up to it to "instigate some sensible robust Gun controls".

The voters control who gets elected, so the movement should be trying to elect people that will pass laws they like. They can march all they like, but as long as their parents keep electing the same people, nothing is going to change.

Perhaps many of those students are not old enough to vote YET.

Does that mean that their views should be ignored in favour of rich weapons companies and the NRA?

Some students will NEVER be old enough to vote as they have been slaughtered by maniacs using automatic weapons.

Your question about being ignored is a ridiculous leap of generalization, and irrational thought, making up nutty extrapolations

So explain to us all you genius thinking.

If they are not old enough to vote then the politicians WILL ignore them, unless you know better. If you do please explain it to us.

Quite a few of the protestors have children that were MURDERED and never had the chance to grow up.

Do you think that is right and fair?

Very true and it's time the supporters of the gun lobby stopped quoting an out of date constitutional law which no longer serves the purpose it was originally introduced, in fact is serving exactly the opposite purpose, allowing law abiding American citizens to be slain.

Very true, but you can't ignore the law or simply wish the law were different; you have to change the law. That's easier said than done
