House Insurance

Featured Replies

I've asked around a number of farang house owners (Thai wives) here in Isaan and it is apparent that very few have building insurance and/or contents insurance. Is this the case throughout the whole of the farang community in Thailand?

No way.

I insure my house and contents with New Hampshire (AIG) through an agent in Pattaya.

IMO anyone who doesn't carry good insurance on their property is very foolish.

I insure my home, building and contents, through Royal Sun Alliance in Bangkok.

Not overly expensive and also covers personal effects whilst travelling in Thailand.

I cannot understand why home owners would not insure their property..... :D:o

Lol, people who don't use insurance - are playing with fire imo. We use Aviva, and filed a claim with them when our house was burlarized. They paid promtly, and I am very happy with them, for sure.

We went through an insurance broker called AON. Have had good results with them as well.

Best

We use Aviva as well. Never had a claim thank goodness but we are happy knowing we can if we have to. I wouldn't not have house insurance.

Hi

How much do you guys pay for house insurance, thanks.

Bangkok Insurance Ltd

Was the best of 4 offers ( in price-conditions and service )

House and contents

Some times you see a topic posted and think that's so stupid i've got to read it - bit like that one a month back about 'are car seats a good idea for kids'? Err dur!

The masses in thailand do not go in for insurance of any kind, why because they can't afford it / and or it won't happen to them (what with all these amulets i'm wearing and the tambooning i'm doing , how could i be so unlucky).

Why should you have insure - cause sods law says when you don't have it is when you'll need it.

Example, nearly 4 years back, wife and i have health insure the 5 month old son doesn't, he starts vomiting every time he eats, stomach pumped, scans, MMR's, the works, 5 days later in hospital they find his stomach is the wrong way up, major operation = nearly Baht 100k. Lesson learnt!!!

Do yourself a favour and get some quotes - you'll find house insurance is cheap, and you'll feel slightly at ease if you hear a fire engine siren coming from near your house.

Thai people are not very familiar with the idea of insurance.

It is only a few years since car insurance became compulsory.

House insurance, building and contents is essential.

As is medical and full car insurance.

If you do nto trust the Thai companies several Internationals are represented in LOS.

And reply to it! :o:D

So how much do you pay for a month or year, which one offers the best insurance and best price ?

Cheers

Jason

thai prakan chi wit, thai company, your mrs will know it.

i think it was about 4,700 baht for the year.

that was for house valued at 3 million baht and contents at 1 million.

is it any good or not, to be honest i dont know, and dont want to know, its all about peace of mind.

What does it normally cover? Burglary, fire, theft, robbery, anything else?

they wouldnt insure for jewellery, you might sell it and claim off them.

if the place gets burned to the ground we are covered, so yes includes fire.

the agent came round and looked at everything in the house, to check we really had a monster tv and kick ass stereo.

photographed all the electrical stuff, and and took copies of the receipts, so yes burglary is included.

In EU it's possible insure the House also for

War, Civil revolts, Hurricane, Vandalism,

Hey... wait a moment ..... hummmm ....

and also for Government revolts/coups....

Do you think is possible in LOS as well ?

Some of you realize already my point, did you ?

Like in all developing countries, people are severly under insured. From property to healthcare. Banks have often very interesting offers.

i would'nt bother mate :o ....anyway your inlaws might burn it down if they need some cash....

I would be interested to hear from people who have made claims.

Which companies paid out efficiently, which ones cause problems?

actually, it would be a good idea if TV members listed

1. who they are insured with

2. the coverage they have on the sum insured ie fully insured, 80% etc

3. how much you pay for the insurance on home & contents per year

4. and value of your house, ball park figure will do.

5. other comments on the company, ease to deal with, god on claims etc.

so the rest of us know whether we are getting a good deal or not.

at the moment, our house is insured by the company we bought from. Part of the package we negotiated. So I dont know all the details off hand.
