BANGKOK, 2 April 2018 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Somkid Jatusripitak believes technological innovations will turn Thailand into a 4.0 economy.

Somkid says that the Thai economy is recuperating rapidly in line with the global economic recovery, coupled with the fact that Thailand has a geographical advantage over other countries in the region, thus it must continue honing its ability to compete by drawing in more foreign investors and improving innovation related industries. Only then can the country become a 4.0 economy.

He stressed that the keys to sustainable economic development are science, technology, and digital transformation which will help enhance productivity, distribute wealth to remote provinces, and close the existing social gap.

Today’s competition isn’t about cost management, he said, but how to utilize innovations to create value and gain a competitive edge.

In terms of economic growth, the deputy premier expects the country’s GDP to grow more than 2.8% this year. Contributing factors are tourism, exports, and investments.

Thailand is very good with technology and innovations...especially electrics.

Is it still April 1?

Thailand has also shown itself to excel with innovation when it comes to corruption. Especially when it comes to taking public funding from the destitute and aged.

There are good people here, but they have been beaten for so long down by a system that just keeps taking from them or gives them no chances whatsoever.   As a foreign investor, finding those people and employing them is where the gold is.  Thais are capable, but, at the moment, they need to be told what to do.

The current government mentality has created a closed shop, keeping all but the wealthy of the world out.  Innovation comes from all directions, including digging up past.  Making Thainess a mandatory part of innovation is hampering the country.

Maybe they could invent an electronic transfer system as they don't seem to us one in this case

How can you have innovation  when critical thinking and dissent ( going against the status quo) is totally discouraged along with libel laws that stop disclosure of bad practices, selectively enforced laws and a coup every 4 years ?

Is Somkid related to Prayut?

Just a thought because they both seem to live in LA-LA land.

I'm sure you're right, C, but that they both share the same speech defect, i.e. talking out o' their ass, makes them cousins, if not blood brothers, in my view.

If you want to spur economic grown and the IT sector then unleash the digital nomads This will create

an enormous boom for all

They do not want a boom for all, just those within the golden circle.  That is why they make getting work permits difficult and have crazy labor rules.  Could you imagine bosses allowing Thais a five day work week, a fun work environment, promotions based on merit ? It would be the downfall of those who are wealthy because they are wealthy.  It is all talk.  Would never do any significant business with Thais unless the contracts were signed in Hong Kong or Singapore.
