"Erik the Viking" to the rescue as King Cobras move in!

Southern Thailand snake catchers turned to the expertise of a Danish man when two King Cobras returned to seek vengeance on a Thai man.

 

Three of the four meter long beasts had invaded the home of Somjet Khonsamma at the weekend. He attacked one with a stick but the other two fled the scene.

 

However, on Monday they returned to get their revenge so the Siam Ruam Jai Pu-In snake catchers called in Erik to help them.

 

 

Soon thanks to the Dane's skill the King Cobras were in custody ahead of their release somewhere away from people.

 

There have been seven to ten cases of snakes entering homes per week recently in Prasong sub-district of Surat Thani, reported TNews.

 

Erik said that the weather was hot and with water drying up the snakes were seeking alternative habitats - that meant going into people's homes in the area.

 

A Thai snake catcher said the ones caught Monday were very aggressive and troublesome.

 

Thaivisa notes that TNews reported the Danish man's name as M. kur erik Madscn - so we have decided to call him Erik.

Troublesome snakes are terrible. Definitely need to be taught good manners.

I was relieved when Eric gave an intelligent answer and not one related to vengeance or spirits etc.  Reptiles do have a habit of returning to areas where the food is plentiful. There must be alot of rodents, lizards and smaller snakes around the house.

Archaic, superstitious, anthropomorphic nonsense.

 

But lucky for those snakes, and the locals, that Dane was on hand to intervene.

actuallyit has been proven that cobras have a range and travel almost exclusively within it. new practice is to release them within that range as they pose less of a threat on home territory.

a cobra release out of familiar territory will continue to seek its home range, cover many more square kilometres than normal and actually poses a greater risk to people nearby as they are more likely to encounter humans by accident.

the notion of anthropomorphizing these beasts and claiming they returned to seek revenge is idiotic.

alas, i recently saw an animation of a cobra within its range and tracking data of the same cobra without, and once translocated the snake covered a vastly larger territory and seemed to meander without reason.

Maybe he meandered without reason, for humans, but Im sure he had his own reasons.

Snakes are not Territorial and just keep moving. They follow the pray if they don't sleep, which is most of the time.

and for future reference, its prey. Pray is another matter altogether.

In Pattaya the snakes have the reverse tendency, coming  into people,s houses during the rain season when the ground gets completely waterlogged. Used to get them in the house in old Palm Villa on 2nd Road many times.

Probably the vikings name is Kurt Erik Madsen, a typical Danish name...
Well done viking job – Danish vikings are used to snakes, like the Midgard Serpent, or "Jörmungandr", meaning huge monster, a snake that is able to surround the Earth and grasp its own tail – keep up the good work...

“Released somewhere away from people”  where they live their lives happy ever after.....minus their heads.

Really?  Wow, now wouldn't that be something!  A Thai "news" outfit taking the piss out of a Thai for believing silly Thai nonsense? 

 

Edit:  I have to agree after the Mrs read the whole thing (my Thai not that good or fast) and said the article wasn't making light of that old chestnut, or that the Thai involved even mentioned it.  So somebody seems to have gotten creative in the News Team.
