I have, after 7 years of living here still got to get to grips with the habit of Thai organisations returning stuff to the customer which is absolutely useless, for example, every time I take my car in for a service it is guaranteed that when I get home I will find empty oil containers, air con filters, wiper blades, empty cans of engine cleaning fluid and air con cleaning fluid, I recently sent my wrist watch, a Citizen, to the main agent in BKK and lo & behold when it came back, (after a very long time I might add), I found that I had a small plastic bag containing the old waterproof seal and a couple of other items, does any one know why they do this ?  I'm not complaining, I just find it very strange, any thoughts anyone ? and what strange items have been returned to you after service or repair ?

Sure, it's to show you what parts they replaced and what consumables they used.  How else do you know if your bill is correct, and not padded?

Edit:  BTW, that's a W A G.

I sort of understand that, but I don't get the old oil filter or fuel filter back, so am I to assume that those parts were not replaced ? ( That was definitely tongue in cheek  ) As for my watch, well I'm pretty sure I would know if the seal hadn't been replaced the 1st time I went swimming LOL

BTW, what's a W A G ? Google no help.

Wild Ass Guess

Not to be confused with a SWAG- Scientific Wild Ass Guess

Used oil filters and fuel filters will leak toxic and flammable stuff for days after they're pulled, so you probably won't get those back.

trouble is my wife brought her pick up home( 18 months ago) and when I checked the oil it was very dirty  even though there were empty bottles in the back. I looked under the car at the sump plug and it was covered in grease/dirt as was the motor and filler cap, none had been touched, when I went into the Toyota service centre and queried it they said it was dirty from the drive home(5 kilometers at most) after I had waited there 30 minutes for someone to talk to me after fronting the office girl about it, we have never been back there since. While they may throw empty bottles etc in the car always check to make sure they have done the work as in some cases they are full of sh*t and yes my Seiko watch had the old parts returned with it as well after a service.

^^^^ You make a very good point there seajae, when mine goes in for a service I sit and look through the window from the customer lounge, and yea I do check random parts when I get home, it's a shame that some service centers feel the need to cheat their customers.

Another lesson I learned in China (and applies to Thailand) is to not get all antsy and in their face if they don't get your repair done on your time schedule.  If you do get unpleasant with them, you stand a much higher risk of getting your goodies back at some less-than-complete stage of the repair.  It's a cultural thing that consumers are better protected from back home in nanny land.
