The Ministry of Interior has set up the centre for accident prevention and assistance to handle traffic emergencies during the notorious 7-day dangerous period from April 11-17.

The centre went into operation yesterday after officially opened by Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda yesterday. The centre has listed risky locations in 198 districts where authorities will take care if closely to ensure safety travel by Songkran revellers during the 7-day dangerous period.

Gen Anupong said he has ordered all departments to coordinate efforts and ensure that traffic laws are strictly enforced during the period. Special community checkpoints manned by volunteers have also been sanctioned to help police on secondary roads while a high alert has also been ordered at risk prone locations in 198 districts.

Is this the same thing as stop the burning in the North,

Every year they go on about road safety during Songkran and

other dangerous times of the year (every week it seems),

and in both cases it does not make a jot of difference,

Funny I was out today briefly and saw, driving on the wrong side of the road, no helmets everywhere, speeding, overloaded vehicles, no number plates on  quite a few  bikes, Red light jumping etc, guess they havent been told about these "rules" in Pranburi today then???

seen lots of police while driving on the 22 road, Nakon to Sakon nakhon today, all looking very busy

Drinking beer and playing on their phones

only saw one policeman working ? he looked like he was showing a farmer how to use the speed gun at the roadside

why don't they get off there fat <deleted> and actually patrol the roads, its not as if its hard work. They wont have to travel far to keep themselves busy all day

Even saw one policeman stood outside his tent ( must have needed some exercise) wave as a couple of bike went past, 3 up on the bikes, no helmets and no plates

How much is wasted putting up these tents just so they can sit and play with their phones ?

Hey Bad news for those folk hoping to get and wear one of the new electronic bracelets that are in fashion this songkran. The Govt underestimated the number ordered only 5000 and rumour has it that around 2700 were snapped up on the first day  of issue by now there are only few left to be handed out only to those who manage to blow highest scores. So cheers and usual driving everything back to normal!
