Long jail terms handed down to principal defendants in Karaoke girl's murder and mutilation

 

 

Sanook reported that the provincial court in Khon Kaen had read judgment on the four female and one male defendants in the murder of karaoke girl Warisara "Em" Klinjui, 22.

 

Em was found cut up and concealed in a field in the north eastern Thai province in May last year in a case that captivated the nation.

 

Preeyanuch "Preaw" and Kawita "Earn" were given 34 years and six months each.

 

Apiwan "Jae" was sentenced to 33 years nine months.

 

Mr Wasin was given 23 years 4 months and 20 days.

 

Jidarat "Benz" who received a stolen phone from the victim was sentenced to one year. 

 

In addition the four principal defendants were ordered to pay the family of their victim 1,070,000 baht in 5,000 baht installments over 17 years at 7.5% interest. 

 

The defendants have a month to lodge an appeal.

 

All have been held in custody since their arrest last year except "Benz" who was out on bail.

Nice, severe sentences for the heinous crime, but good luck enforcing the above financial punishment when they are locked away for so long.

I remember this case. The murderers became media celebrities and dozens of police were seen proudly taking selfies with them and according the VIP treatment. 

 

Even now in this photo, they all seem to be very happy, healthy & smiling. The 3 girls also appear to be wearing make-up.

Good, looks like they have had the book thrown at them obviously they are not from wealthy families as they will see the inside of a jail cell and no amount of monkhood or false platitudes are gonna get them out of it.......

 

Wouldn't it be nice if the law was used fairly in all cases, if it was there would be hope for the country, as it is I will just wait for the next hi-so to completely walk away from another murder or killing and unfortunatly I bet I won't have to wait very long....

This bunch of evil murderers deserved a long sentence...good to see them thrown away for a long time. Just hope they are not released quietly after like 4-5 years for some half-arsed reason.

‘MURDER BABES’ JAILED BUT FAMILY OF SLAIN WARISARA PLAN APPEAL FOR HEAVIER PUNISHMENT

 

TWO WOMEN dubbed the “Murder Babes” by media were yesterday handed decades-long prison sentences for the grisly killing of rival Warisara Klinjui last May.

 

A Khon Kaen Court initially sentenced Priyanuch “Praew” Nonwangchai, 24, and Kawita Rachada, 26, to life in prison.

 

The tariff was then commuted to 34 years and six months each, as both had confessed during the trial to the killing of 22-year-old Warisara, whose dismembered body was found buried in a forest in Khao Suan Kwang district on May 25 last year. Priyanuch and Kawita were found guilty of conspiring to murder Warisara, conspiring to destroy and hide her body and conspiring in theft.

 

Waitress Warisara was murdered after allegedly informing police of drug trafficking by Priyanuch’s boyfriend.

 

Another defendant, 22-year-old Wasin Namprom, was found guilty of being an accessory to the murder, conspiring to destroy and hide the body, and conspiring in theft. Wasin was sentenced to 23 years, four months and 20 days.

 

A fourth defendant, Apiwan Satayabundit, 28, was found guilty of conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to destroy and hide the body, and taking methamphetamine, and was handed 33 years and nine months in jail. 

 

Priyanuch, Kawita, Wasin and Apiwan – who were absolved of premeditated murder and carrying knives in a public place – were ordered to pay Bt1.07 million in compensation plus 7.5 per cent annual interest since the murder until the full payment was made to Warisara’s mother, Pichapa Khamperngjai. Upon hearing the verdict, Priyanuch, Kawita, and Apiwan broke down in tears.

 

 

A fifth defendant, Jidarat Phromkhun, 21, who had pled guilty to receiving stolen items at the first court session on February 20, was given a one-year jail term without suspension.

 

Warisara’s family was reportedly unsatisfied with the sentences and planned to seek heavier penalties at the Appeals Court.

 

Priyanuch's family appeared calm on hearing the verdict, with her elder sister Prapasiri Prasomsri vowing to launch an appeal for lighter punishment, which Priyanuch and Kawita’s lawyer Amornpong Chankawi confirmed would be submitted within a month.

 

The case has received huge public attention, involving as it did the grisly murder and dismemberment of a beautiful young woman by a group of women in their 20s whose widely publicised photos saw them dubbed the “murder babes”. 

 

The police investigation and subsequent hunt for Priyanuch, Kawita and Apiwan, who initially fled to Myanmar after the killing, has been making headlines for months.

These disgusting skanky women should be on death row in shackles and never be let out. I wish the victim's mother to get her wish

I believe the punishments are quite right in this case, and nothing much to feel the need to change in any direction. If something could be wrong it´s the economical compensation, which to me seems very low. However, most people never recieve the compensation from the offenders anyway.

The self-absorbed psychotics they are, I don't think they're all too flustered about having to go behind bars for three and a half decades. What must rattle them most is the prospect that there won't be any make-up, sun glasses, sexy dresses, and hair dying nor the possibility of posting on Facebook, Line and Instagram or bathing in the media spotlight once they're in the slammer.

I hate to say it, but I doubt if any of them do more than 6 - 8 years before they are "pardoned" or paroled. After all is said and done - This Is Thailand.

Well due to the Thai / Buddhist attitude towards "foregiving" I presume they will be in jail for 5-7 years before they will receive a reduction of another 50% on their sentences,; a further reduction may come up at a special occassion so in all in all probably 10-12 years before they are going to be released.

The appeals process here is bizarre.

 

It's one thing for a higher court to order some modification of a sentence, or even to order a lower court to reconsider some detail or even order a new trial if some serious mistake was made during the original hearings.

 

But here, the lower court finds someone guilty, the appeals court agrees they're guilty, and then the Supreme Court years later comes along and declares them totally innocent. Or the reverse, the lower courts find them innocent, and then the high court comes along and finds them guilty. 180 degree opposite decisions, not just adjustments or tinkering with legal details.

 

You kinda have to wonder, what the heck is going on?
