The Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong has had his first inspection of lifeguards at Mai Khao Beach. There are now five lifeguards at Mai Khao Beach, the long stretch of beach along the northern end of Phuket’s west coast.

Three more lifeguards will be hired.

Governor Norraphat says “Currently there are no beach lights, CCTV camera or tourist service centres at Mai Khao Beach. We have ordered local administrative organisations to install these facilities as soon as possible. Tha Chatchai Police will install a ‘Red Box’ at the beach too which will be staffed with police and security officers. A tourist service centre will be installed as well.”

What's with that shirt .... :shock1:

El Chapo's cousin?

I'd be interested to know if he popped on down to Layan and Leypang where the reports say there are no lifeguards and had a word with the local gov't guys there.

Why is i that in 2018 Phuket beaches are still totally disorganized on this subject>

PHUKET: The chief of the Phuket Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports, Sirawee Waloh, has called for better support for Phuket’s lifeguards, especially in the provision of essential lifesaving equipment.

The call by Ms Sirawee, made during Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong’s inspection of Phuket’s major northern tourist beaches on Saturday (May 12), came less than 24 hours after The Phuket News carried its page one story “On Guard: Grave doubts over Phuket’s fragment lifeguard coverage” on Friday.

Joining the inspection team at both Surin and Bang Tao beaches on Saturday were Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket office (DDPM-Phuket) Director Prapan Kanprasang and Thalang District Chief Adul Chuthong.

...both of them?

Why are the shirts only in English. I thought it was mostly Chinese that get into trouble in the water.
The shirts should be tri-lingual, Chinese, Thai and English or use international symbol.

Usual clown stuff, people who know absolutely nothing about surf rescue conducting inspections.

Cue the circus music.....

Is Phuket the only destination in Thailand to have lifeguards? I've never seen a lifeguard in Hua Hin where I live or any other beaches we have visited.

That cyborg saviour from 2029 appears to have aged badly. And, he seems to have teamed up with a Gamorrean clown from Star Wars.

Sarah Connor better get out of Phuket fast if she wants to live.

respect the hat and finger pointing, not the shirt !

Leave it to professional managers, politicians, and bureaucrats to contribute nothing to the solutions while amplifying the problems.  Commonly referred to as a photo op

Not hard really get some Australian life savers there on a work permit

Pay them peanuts but get  the young ones they would love it here and do the job too

I would rather a young Aussie life gaurd on a thai beach then a Thai he be eating somewhere or asleep on the beach or maybe not turn up at all???

What does inspecting a lifeguard entail?  Is this like North Korea?
