want to take my Thai wife to the US for only a short visit. What visa does she need?

Featured Replies

So I want to go with my Thai wife to the USA for a short visit (30 or say days). We have no intention of staying. So my question is what kind of visa does she need to apply for?

It would seem that the obvious answer is tourist visa, however, I had a problem before. After we got married, we went to Israel. She applied for and got a tourist visa. When we landed in Israel they almost didn't let her in because they told me since we were married, she needed a marriage visa even though it was only a short term trip. They eventually let her in, but not before I almost died of a heart attack.

Any American citizens take their Thai wives over the to the US for only a visit, if so what visa did they go on? Thanks.

Your wife will need to get a 10 year B-2 tourist visa that allows for stays up to 6 months at a time.

Whilst your wife will indeed need to apply for a B-2 Tourist Visa, if the Consular Officer decides to grant the visa it may be with a ten year period or a far shorter validity.
