A 16 year old student at a school in Surat Thani was told that he would have to stay behind for detention after his work was not completed.

An argument broke out and he produced a knife and stabbed his teacher in the abdomen.

He then fled on a motorbike.

Khun Talay police were called to the Office of Non Formal and Informal Education in Thung Rang sub-district yesterday where they found blood in a classroom.

Teacher Udomlak Nitjanphansri, 41, had already been taken to hospital.

She had two stab wounds to her abdomen and defensive wounds to her left hand and elbow.

She is recovering and now out of danger, reported Thai Rath.

She had announced to the class that 5 or 6 students had not submitted their work and would have to stay behind.

"Jane" - a 16 year old male student - argued that he wanted to go home and then in front of the shocked class produced a knife and attacked the teacher.

Police are seeking a warrant for his arrest.

Typical Thai male ego on full display.....again.

False sense of entitlement ( to misbehave, disobey  and not do his schoolwork)  And false sense of self importance that his behaviour was acceptable or at least justifiable.  Another uneducated ego driven adult Thai male obviously just passed his finishing school test.  Welcome to our community (NOT.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Police are seeking a warrant for his arrest.   Why not just ask him to pop into the station when convenient next time he is passing?  That seems to be the usual weird system.

Your joking, more like a new iPhone or scooter and the teacher threatened with court action for ruining the schools reputation.you must be old school because they don't do punishment like that anymore.i agree with you but it'll never happen.

Memo to self.... do not give students any homework.....!!!

Why do you need a warrant to arrest someone for attempted murder? The crime has occured, surely it is merely a case of arresting the coward.

Now it is!

Will this unfortunate teacher ever feel safe in front of a class again? I wish her a speedy recovery. Now if the teacher had been attacked in the USA it might have had a different outcome with a different weapon. RIP and a speedy recovery to those in Texas.

Right on!  Agree!  If the RTP actually saw someone in the act of robbing a bank or committing a murder, would they just arrest them, then & there, or would they perhaps have to pop off somewhere, instead, to "seek an arrest warrant"?   (Note to non-arresting officer:  "Get his full name, address, Thai ID number and D.O.B.before leaving him to continue his criminal act.")  The kid's done to rights, like a duck dinner.  He is however a juvenile and that will bring complications later but why is he not in appropriate custody RIGHT NOW?   Is there a point of Thai law we are missing here?

Just get off your fat backsides and go and get him ! He certainly wont like his new detention.

He stabbed someone to avoid detention?

Unless you are planning to leave the country stubbing someone is the surest way to get lots and lots of detention and not in such a nice place as a school.

I feel bad for the teacher. Hope she fully recovers both physically and mentally.

Umm..err..bit of a problem there..can we get back to you tomorrow?

(Note to Captain..there's a farang actually wanting us to to do something..what shall we do?)

Ask Do Thai teachers get paid enough for this crap. NO WAY  Just goes to show they don't like discipline and they hate work, I would say this would be the end of this teachers career. If she had any sense she would give it away as a bad joke As I said Thai teachers don't get paid enough for this type of behaviour.

Nothing as usual who do they think we are ?

How about 3 years in the "class  2" prison where he'll learn about how it feels to be "stabbed", and not necessarily in the tummy.

Son of some big man? undisciplined and entitled to behave anyway he chooses.

He probably is. If a Farang stabbed that teacher he or she would be arrested within the half hour and so they should be. I would not be surprised if the school invites this potential murderer in the future back to school and make him School Captain. Their reason would be" He showed leadership and quick action when the time was needed" That is Leadership material and Thailand needs Leadership material in the future.

The part you have bolded and italicised is code.

It means the police are playing for time until they know who is who and how important in terms of position, status and wealth the victim, the accused and both their families are. This is key as to how they proceed with the case. If they start locking up the children of local godfathers, the case officer could find himself out of an active position and seriously out of pocket very quickly. If they play for time, on the other hand, they can determine how much can be squeezed from all involved in relation to the amount of effort and risk involved ('risk' here means losing your active role, not actually the danger of being physically attacked).

Also, it is the weekend, The Keystone boys don't work weekends or after 6 pm weekdays. Have to wait until Monday if he is going to be arrested.

Yeah, but they know who this kid is.    O.K.  O.K.  Perhaps he's the Or Bor Tor's nephew.

Well, I'm glad the students I teach all appear to be mentally stable. What is it with Thai men and knives? As soon as their ego gets wobbled they start flashing blades around and then they run away. Do they really think they won't get caught? Are they that stupid?
