Does anyone know where I can buy Tramadol/Paindol or something similar for chronic pain. I have been getting it on prescription at local hospitals but they limit the amount to usually ten x 50mg tabs. (They say it is a police thing)

They have no problem in prescribing the meds, just the quantities. I have no issue with paying, it is purely the inconvenience of having to go to the hospital every few days and having to spend up to 6 hours waiting to simply get a repeat prescription. The chronic pain is not going to go away nor is the underlying cause going to be cured, so I just need a convenient way of getting even 1 months worth at a time.

If anyone knows of somewhere that can sell these or similar, I would be grateful.

Sorry - I should have said in Chiang Mai or Lamphun.

Most of the smaller pharmacies will sell it.

It isn't a prescription drug (not that many care), but they are supposed to record sales.

You might need ID and have to sign their book.

40bht/10 tabs.

Tramadol is restricted supposedly prescription only, but as you say not many care - Can't get it at my local pharmacy, and I can't even get it at my clinic which is run by a doctor - he reckons only available at a hospital (which is untrue as there was a clinic that would prescribe it but has since closed)

Thanks for the info, I will go and try a larger pharmacy in the city and see what happens. - Do you know of any specific branch that sells it?

It is not prescription only. But only pharmacies with a grade 1 pharmacist always on duty can sell it and they have to keep records of sales. Many can't or won't meet these requirements hence only some carry it and these will be large, not small, pharmacies. In CM try Fascino near Suan Doc.

Pharmacies will also restrict amount sold at a time as there have been problems with teenagers abusing the drug. But at least quicker than going to a hospital.

Sheryl has given the restrictions, but I've found the very small pharmacies are less bothered by rules.

Last I bought was in Mae Rim beside the market, a little old man served me.

Plenty of small pharmacies in CM, whenever I want something 'a bit iffy', I just ask in each until somebody sells it to me.

Hi Sheryl, I couldn't find that particular Fascino on Google Maps, there were two others on the other side of the city though, do you know if they are possibilities? The other one that came to mind was Boots, do you know if they have the required pharmacist? Thanks.

I recently purchased Tramadol at Boots, however it was the extended release kind and was expensive at 200 baht or so for 10.  I'm not sure if they sell the regular kind.  I assumed they were selling extended release because it had less potential for abuse.  I did have to sign a register when buying it.

Unless they have moved,  Fascino  is on Suthep road, GPS 18.789033, 98.9734

There are some other pharmacies in the same general area as it is near the University Hospital.

2 other pharmacies many TV members have recommended (though nto with specific reference to tramadol) are:

Peera pharmacy just inside Thae Pae Gate on  Rachadamoen Road (the beginning of the Sunday Walking street market) on the left

Pharma Square pharmacy -  near Peera

Thanks for that.

Well as luck would have it, a Thai friend mentioned another clinic across the river from me which I went to today.

The doctor has given me 1 months supply of the 50mG tabs, standard, not controlled release. 90 tabs in all and for the princely sum of 300 Baht! So looks like I have been lucky.
