"Can you support me?"

I am already 10 years single and every now and then I meet a woman who seems to get acquaintance with.
But 99% of the chats turns after a few words into "can you support me"?

I have asked many times: "what do you mean with "can you support me""?
The standard answer is: "If you need to ask that then you should not meet a Thai lady".

So, what is "can you support me"?

Give a woman free (normal) housing; Free (normal) food; Free (normal) drinks; Medical help if she need a doctor; Etc...?
If that woman has children, give the children adequate housing, food & drink, Medical help, etc...?
Maybe "supporting a woman" means also pay for her parents and her brothers/sisters/ nephews/ etc..?

Please, TV-members, enlighten me about the subject .....

It's dead simple really:

 

It's like the "Good Old Days" in my part of the West, when the man went out to work, came home with the money, gave some of it to his wife to pay for looking after him and the household (in Thailand that may include an extended family) and maybe gave her a bit more to spend on herself if he could afford to.

 

That's basically what they expect/want.

 

Some want a bit more, some want a lot more

 

No, it's not very "liberated" is it........a lot of foreigners really like that.

 

Also (in the Good Old Days in my part of the world) some men, who were strictly managed by their wives, would give all of it to the wife and hope that they would get some back as pocket money.

 

Some men, like my great-grandfather, just pissed it all away on booze and gambling.

 

If anyone in the family needed any money they had to go down the pub and beg it from him.

 

(As it's Thailand you can, cheaply and guiltlessly, add go-go girls to the booze and gambling)

 

It is really not at all complicated or difficult to understand......but some like to make it so.

 

 

PS There are women in Thailand who might qualify as "liberated", but I suspect they are not the sort that you are knocking around with.

She (if she has children/family to support) is asking are you prepared to pay her compensation for being your wife or girlfriend simple really.....she will have obligations as most thai ladies do.......your next step is to find out how much it,s going to cost U and take it from there but beware of any lady who asks this question early in the relationship....usually its a bad sign

It could be said about keeping a dog. There is much more to it than that.

 

The OP has been single for the last 10 years. I suggest he stays single for another 10 years. It will work out much cheaper in the long run. Otherwise if he wants a full time bed partner for the rest of his life, don`t expect it will be cheap.

I really don't know if there is any difference between a Western woman and a Thai woman asking this question. Based on experience, I'd say the Thai woman will prove to be less expensive in the long run.

You are contradicting 95% of the TV-members.

 

As I read regularly threads here about "giving money to their wife or the family" most members answer that they have never paid 1 dime to their wife or their family.
The wife/gf of most TV-members is mostly a PD with a University Doctorandus from Thammasat who don't need support.

Less of a issue IMO with someone who has a regular job / income, especially if she's a professional, and who will continue to work. But it'll never completely go away, they will all want to be sure they are not tying themselves to someone that can't offer a degree of security for the future. More of a issue with bar girls I think, most guys maybe won't want them to continue to work in the bar / agogo, take away that income and it has to be replaced and you'll be paying it for the duration of the 'relationship'. Even then, I've come across career girls who are far more interested in money than might be considered reasonable / desirable. YMMV. TIT.

I had long evenings, drinking a beer and chatting with "normal" woman.
Woman from farmer to a doctor.
And money was never discussed.
Everyone would support the newly wed family according their possibility.

- How much (money) you have per month?
- How much can you pay for the dowry?
- Etc.

Somehow, the second type can be seen even before she start chatting.

I have a steady gf (56 year old) who is teaching in a government school and we chat many times at a dinner or a party.
She made it clear from the beginning that she never would marry again and want to live alone with her mother.
She never talked about money.
The only time "money" was a subject of conversation was 5 years ago when she needed to go to Mahasarakham to collect her PHD (with the presence of HM the princess) and she made already reservations for a bungalow.
I wanted to split the costs, but she refused it.

If you are going to be serious with a Thai girl, then you need to think like a Thai girl. Firstly, Thais don't date or marry outside their social class.  You, as a westerner, are far above and beyond her social class. A middle class Thai girl does not expect a foreigner to "support me". You are middle class. You are being scammed by the lower class. Her other options are motorcycle taxi drivers and rice farmers.

if you date poor girls, uneducated, lower class girls without a hard work ethic and/or independent streak then for sure they will expect you to pay to be their friend, gf or wife.

I look at her ID card, never take a girl home without viewing her ID card (and taking a photo of it on your phone).

Means you can find them later, and nips all sorts of potential problems in the bud.

(Note: never go home with a woman who carries her brother's ID card)
