Troubled British tourist falls to death from Chiang Mai condo

You take a bunch of pills, someone finds you and you get your stomach pumped, suicide

thwarted, Darn.  Jump from tall place is fairly certain with your attempt to end it all.

That is why some people jump from high places, many on their 2nd or 3rd attempt at

suicide, at least that is what my cousin did.

Chang Phuak police checked his room and found that it had been locked from the inside. The room was tidy and nothing appeared to have been stolen before the police arrived. ?

R.I.P.

A good point.

Very few write a suicide note when jumping off Thai balconies it seems.

Sad but family troubles or medical problems can be overwhelming for many.

RIP.

Are people really this ignorant, as in bereft of common sense and a grip on reality?  People kill themselves. Sometimes  it is because they are mentally ill and other times it is because they  have a chronic illness or life crisis that seems hopeless to them. That's all. Nothing more. All these nonsensical claims of murders of conspiracies just say that the  person making the claim is a sick individual trying to stir the pot or is truly a mentally ill case himself.

Who knows what really happened? The man jumped off his balcony. There were witnesses. What more do you want, a live camera?

What is there to conclude. The deceased was seen to  leave his balcony and land on the ground. I conclude that he jumped off his balcony.

Oh stop it. Your assertion has absolutely nothing to do with this case. It just muddies the waters and confuses the easily confused and terrifies the old men on here. No one was seen throwing anyone off a balcony here. What was seen was an older mail  throwing himself off the balcony and landing with a thud. That event in itself traumatized the witnesses and will haunt some for a long time. The victims are those who had to watch this public display. Have a kind thought for the poor Thais who had to clean the mess up.

Somedays you gotta earn those rockstar wages instead of playing Facebook and gossiping...

RIP, and no disrespect intended- but I've read hundreds of these articles with the same story.  British male fell to his death. Why are they always British?  Is it too much Harry Potter and guys get all crazy and try to fly off of buildings?  Does this happen regularly in the UK?  Guys just walk off balconies or parking structures like lemmings all the time?  I really don't get it.  And I understand all the second guessing about police work, etc. but what are the chances a tiny Thai girl or a little ladyboy could throw a full grown man from a balcony AND get away with it?  Really, why are these stories almost exclusive to Brits?  Again, I'm just addressing the elephant in the room.  Reach out if you are in despair.  Don't be another statistic, please.

You claimed it's mostly Brits

It seems to be, by far.  Out of all nationalities, roughly half of the ones I read are Brits.  Not statistics, just what I read.  That is why I'm asking what is going on here.  Half the tourists (or expats) are not Brits.  For example, I've never read once about a South African or a Filipino plunging from a balcony, ever.  Plenty of them live here.

Maybe you are a Brit so stories about Brits attract your eye.

Half sounds like a made up stat.

I've been reading about suicides by Germans , Swiss, Norwegians,  Canadians, French and Irish here on Thaivisa the last 12 months so it involves a mix of nationalities of expats/long term tourists in Thailand.

Yeah, I've been reading the same story for seven years now.  It's definitely disproportionate.  Are you suggesting its a media bias to write about it if it's a Brit?  And I can't say that I would be a fan or believer of a website called farang-deaths.com.  I'm not a farang and neither is the man that this article is about.  I'm American.  He is British.  Neither of us are French.

A very selfish act in my opinion,

....................That said it all.....................I have been in three wars and five civil conflicts in 50 years as a Combat Engineer, Tactical Telecommunications Specialist, and a normal guy on contract with State Dept. Almost all of those 50 years I have lived overseas, have counseled many a young Marine, Soldier, Sailor, and Airman, and I always have one train of thought I give them.  When the going gets tough, ......repeat after me........"There is nothing in this world that I care so much about, that it would make me want to hurt me."  repeat as many times as you need to get over any feeling of remorse, or hopelessness - because in the end - Its all about YOU.  And yes it is selfish, because all those that loved you, befriended you, and care about you will now spend the rest of their lives without you.

I still think some of these 'suicides' are actually accidents caused by guard rails that are too low.

No money, no relationships, physical problems, self made or inherited mental issues just hanging on.

Many people in this state all over the world.

I know Lanna 3 and the pool so sad to hear of this death. The balconies are standard height for Thailand but not difficult to climb over. It's also not beyond the realm of possibility that he slipped or was standing on a chair doing some work/cleaning on the balcony and fell.

I can understand how in your mid 50s after a combination of events, injuries, illnesses that your mind could take you to a place where this seems like the only solution. I think if I ever reached that point, I'd take a 10-day vipassana meditation course to regain control of my thoughts. I would then be capable of assessing my options and moving on.

The door handle button was pushed, or there was a bolt across from the inside?

Sloppy police work or sloppy reporting?

Questionable reporting, every time. Consider who actually controls the media.

Tragic event, nonetheless.

Why do they choose Thailand to die? Fatal attraction?

Maybe the thought of returning to the UK  drove him to it   Not the best place to spend your twilight years

"We" do not need to know more about his past activities, that's no one's business and "we" are not being consulted in order to "conclude" anything!  It's a news report on a forum that we can read if we want to, that's all.

It's a depressing shithole of a place to go back to having spent a few decades in the tropics tbh

After a couple of days back I'm itching to leave again
