Hi.Can anyone tell me a good spot to watch the fireworks next weekend.Have booked a pretty high hotel Soi 8 on the beach road.

The restaurants/bars at the Hilton and the top floor pool/bar at Siam @ Siam were pretty good in the past, and mostly sold out well in advance. As this event was announced very late, and is taking place in low season, things may be different. Also I dont know whether they will be doing it on the same part of the beach that they previously used or not.

If your hotel is in Soi 8 then you may get a good view from its roof, assuming it is accessible.

There is a big stage going up next to the beach at the bottom of Klang.

Pratumnak hill by the PATTAYA sign is also popular. Get there early. 

Anywhere round the centre of beach rd. You can hire deck chairs to sit on the beach to get the best view

It's too far away to get the real effect. You really want to be close to the central area to enjoy it. It's worth buying a seat for this event IMO.

what about from a yacht out in the bay?

These fireworks events are choreographed to music and the show is designed to be seen from a certain position on the beach, the central stage area. If you go anywhere else you'll see fireworks, but you'll miss out on the whole point of the event. It's not like NYE when people are randomly exploding fireworks over a large area.

A bit slow on the uptake are we? The visual and audio choreography of the fireworks display is designed to be seen (and heard) from a specific point on the beach. It's a show and the fireworks barges form the stage, close to shore. If you want to listen to your own music, knock yourself out, but it would be like watching a movie while playing your own soundtrack. At least you'd be positioned for the best visual display while you're listening to your own music.

 

I have bought central seats for this display in past years and will be doing it again tomorrow. IMO it's well worth it. Last time (2015) beer x2 was included in the admission price.

It was 3 years ago, so I'm a bit rusty on details, but I think I paid 250 baht admission with 2 cans of beer. I can't remember the brand. The beer was included, so you couldn't get a cheaper admission without it. Who knows what they will do or how much they will charge this year. I'll find out tomorrow. They normally start at 9 pm but you'll have to go early for a chair. There were also (very crowded) areas where you can sit for free on the sand, but that's a bit further left and right from the central seating area.

It sounds like you are trying to justify spending money on something.  Fireworks are a spectacle in and of themselves, and actually generate sound in case you didn't notice.  Your cinematic strawman argument don't wash.   If I want music I will choose my own, but for safety reasons would prefer the fireworks with their natural sound.  I have provided an aide for your edification

There are firworks shows and festivals like this all over the world, where the fireworks are sychonized with music, in vancouver, the symphony ochestra sets up on the beachfront to perform live.

 

It is quite a dramatic event with the visuals of the fireworks and the explosions adding percussive emphasis to the symphonys performance. 

 

As for yor remark about saftey reasons for avoiding the music, that is so laugable i chose to idnore it.

I probably won't go see them though,as I get older I'm really starting not to like the crowds and parking hassle...years ago I lived very close and could easily walk to many events on beach road , Walking street and new years at Bali Hai.

You can "idnore" it if you want, but what about people who don't like classical music.  Some may prefer Guns and Roses, or jazz.  And people ignore safety at their peril. I would not want to be at any event (including a bbq) organized by such a dangerous and irresponsible fool.

Because it would not be in synch with the fireworks. Handel's music for fireworks is a famous example of music and fireworks being synched. Here is a video of a serbian pyrotchnicians trying to synch their fireworks to a famous Serbian piece of music.

But this is tiny compared to The Pattaya Fireworks Festival.

I have posted the times now. From what I observed last time their timing was very tight and well organised as is the usual case in Thailand with big civic events.

Because the displays are syncronised to the music.
