Where is that tropo?

From memory, the center of the display and paid seating area is somewhere near Central Shopping Mall.

Does anybody know the start time of the events this weekend?

Sometime after dark...yes sorry but even the official times will be wrong.

I have posted the times now. From what I observed last time their timing was very tight and well organised as is the usual case in Thailand with big civic events.

The fireworks should start at 9 pm. I plan to get seated at 8 pm after spending a couple of hours in Central Mall. That should make for a pleasant evening.

We were down watching last night, took the scooter as traffic was very dense.

At Central I went to Carl's Jr. where there were no fee for getting in but off-course you have to buy something, so I had a orange juice to 45 baht. The Hippopotamus charged you 500 baht just to get in, hmm.

Tonight we gonna find a spot on the north end for a better view I think as my photos were not that good.

You can get close on Klang with motorbike only. Get a sand spot with mat at 6pm latest, food is great. Starts at 7-8 Thai time. Very crowded tonight. I went 5 last night for beach spot, perfect.

Culture Festival and Fireworks

Culture Festival was very very good. But they did not communicate it starts at 6pm very well in signs--never in enough English.

Fireworks--90% very good but next year needs improvement.
The police stand around being useless. The beach was a disaster with no planning for aisles or garbage. No police to tell people beaches near stage were full and go down or up Beach Road after 7pm. You can make aisles with metal barriers. No police on beach, everybody like cockroaches walking all over your mats.
The food was better than Culture Festival.
The policeman at Klang and 2nd Road was yelling at tourists to not try to park motorbikes. He was very rude old man and never should be put in front of tourists. There was no good planning for motorcycle parking on Klang to Beach Rd.
After show ended everyone squeezing onto Klang, there was no planning to open up side streets to 2nd Rd, police useless.

The music from BKK was for teens, not mix audience and you had no women singers, only screaming Thai bands. Boring.
The announcer had a stupid dance contest that only stage audience could see and everyone on the beaches was totally bored for 30 minutes.

The announcer woman kept telling people for 2 nights the final Saturday would have 45 minute show from each country and then she woke up finally and said sorry it is only 10 minutes. In the US she would be fired and not paid.

The other thing is that they could have passed around donation baskets from badged people for some worthy charity during the break or something or on Beach Rd. The two festivals were amazingly free, everyone would have sprung for 20 or 50 baht each to support some orphans with announcements. Wasted opportunity. But thank the city for the freebies.

300 baht would have solved the seating problem. I got a front chair on the first night, going in 30 minutes late. On the 2nd night there were many spare seats... and this was directly in the middle of the fireworks barges in a relaxed environment with no crowds. It's amazing the trouble people go to save some money.

No one with half a brain would think a fireworks show would be 45 minutes long from each of the 4 countries - that's absurd. The fireworks shows totaled exactly 45 minutes. 10 minutes x4 + 5-minute introduction, on both nights.

He was spot on about the police being useless. I never saw any bags searched. I saw many police fixated on cell phones.

There is always something happening in Pattaya that is good fun. The main band was very good and they are very popular here. The police were not officious.  They were not useless. There presence prevents crime and serious disorder such as mugging and stabbing. A recent report in the UK highlighted the inefficiency of the British police force.

The fireworks were excellent and I think Sweden and England were best. It was incredibly busy and it's great when beach rd is turned into a 'Walking'....But I guess someone on this forum will always have something to moan about. But there is no true fun without chaos.  Long Live Pattaya and all its residents! And a thank you to the police and organisers!

As a biased Englishman, I thought the Swedes won the competition by some margin. Also, you can't go far wrong playing Dancing Queen in Pattaya.

Should have got ABBA to do it live.

I couldn't work out who was who. But On both nights I thought the final performance was best....whoever it was. True about dancing queen but also good was every body needs somebody to love. I thought this was the winner.

In light of the possibility of the obvious that I shall not mention by name, I would have expected some bag searching in a crowd that large. I was disappointed that they didn't search mine. There were many thousands of people packed into a small area.

For your information, there was a BIT of classical opera during the Italian presentation. The was a wide range of popular music and even techno. England finished off with Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain". You could only hear the music from near center stage, so your ACDC crap would have been as good as any music (if you can call it that) if you were watching from anywhere else. You were the one worried about your ear health, but you blast ACDC over hearphones... Your hearing is probably already fried.

Yes I know the Japanese and Chinese carry back packs but Thai security is much better than the UK so is not as necessary for that intrusive hands on approach.  If you were disappointed at not being searched then you have been conditioned to fear and thus the terrorists have beaten you. I embrace my lack of fear here from both terrorism and violent street crime.

"fear has beaten me" LOL. It was probably my poor choice of words that lead you to that incorrect assumption.  I should have said "surprised", not "disappointed". I almost never attend packed crowds as I dislike crowds. Not because I'm fearful, just because I find them unpleasant. I had no idea how security handles crowds these days as I don't go into them very often, hence my "surprise". Unfortunately, there was no quick way to exit last night. It was either a long walk to Soi 6 and then to 2nd road and back around to Pattaya Klang, or inching my way through thousands of concertgoers.

There is not much you can say to convince me that the police were doing a good job. For the most part, they weren't doing anything useful at all.

I assume you are being sarcastic when you say Thai security is better than in the UK.

I recently spent a week in the UK and visited the anniversary commemorations of the bombings in Manchester. I can tell you that the countless police there were not gawking at their mobile phones or scoffing takeaway food.

The ACDC played at high volume through your headphones has fried your hearing and most of the area between the phones.
