G'day

Firstly, this is not a wind up .My wife admitted herself to hospital tonight . Ever since she had our daughter she has been having pyshicatric problems (l will call them mental problems because i have never even been able to spell the P word) I am pretty sure she is suffering from post natal syndrome but it seems this is unknown in the kingdom, or maybe ignored because of the face issue.

I am just curious if anyone else has had expeirence with this side of Thai medical care ? All the doctors we have visited before have just thrown drugs at the problem. Is there such a thing as therapy here? We even visited a well known Thai Dr who flogs off alot of books. His solution was " take my pills and buy my new book".

Sorry if this sounds negative . The hospital( won't give the exact name, but a big public hospital close to Victory Monument) were great . They found one nurse who spoke english and were very comforting .

Still, not a great day seeing your other half with tears in her eyes dressed in hospital drab and getting her belongings handed back to u in a paper bag .

On the outside I was impressed by the facilites and amount of staff, but can't help but worry what happens after visiting hours .

Anyone have any experience ?

Thanks for your time

There are behavioral therapists in Bkk, have no details off-hand.

But careful, I am not sure this is a good thing, important is to find a proffessional she can trust.

Have you tried Bamrungrad hospital? Or the small clinics in the Sukhumvit sois, there are some farang practitioners there, doctor or similar qualifications.

It sounds to me like your wife has what we in the US call post-partum depression. It IS real depression and needs to be treated as such. Medication is very good for this. Untreated it can get worse and turn in to scary things...do a google on Andrea Yates.

Go and talk to a psychiatrist at Bumrungrad Hospital.

I posted the below in another forum recently. Doctors at Bumrungrad may be good but most also practice at other hospitals at a much lower price if you, or she, have money concerns.

Google search provides this:

QUOTE

Dr. Kasem Tantiphlachiva

President

The Psychiatric Association of Thailand

Somdet Chaopraya Hospital

Bangkok 10600, THAILAND

Tel: 662-4370200-8

Fax: 662-4375456

Email: [email protected]

As I am sure you know this type of treatment is a very sensitive subject for many Thai.
