MAE SAI, Thailand (AP) - Thai official overseeing cave search says 3rd rescue operation has begun

Journalists at the scene report the rescue effort is now underway. Unclear exactly what time the divers entered but they are apparently already in the cave.

Just found one report that the third rescue commenced at 10:08 AM.

 

Plan to bring out the remaining boys and the coach.

He apparently opposed a government-sanctioned 32-million-baht statue in the Kok river in favor of spending the money the on social and community betterment.

 

He was 1 of 11 governors shuffled this year.

Not too sure if it has been mentioned in all these pages but I do hope there are many parents/teachers/pupils that now think learning to swim is a good idea. How many kids drown every year ?

Thanks for the update! That sounds wonderful. I hope they succeed and that it can be the last day, so that all heroes and rescued and their families can get the privacy they all need and deserve.

Khao tom... the Thai equivalent of chicken soup. It worked wonders for me when I was flattened by Dengue and seems to be the only choice when recuperating in a local hospital but pretty sure they will be getting their pad krapao mu soon enough.

 

PS. Regarding the lads already in hospital, I read that, "One of the boys appeared to have lung inflammation, and another was admitted with a slowed heart rate but both are improving, said Dr. Jedsada Chokedamrongsook, the permanent secretary of the Thai Health Ministry."

Probably not as many that split their head after coming off motorbikes without a helmet.

This is the end of the weather window and I hope that by late afternoon and early evening today, all the remaining will be safe in hospital too.

 

In earlier related treads, some raised concerns about why these extractions were a 'daylight only' event rather than a 24/7 deal. I have been told that although there's a large team of rescue divers and support for each +10 hour rescue mission, overnight there's probably twice as many replacing the exhausted daisy-chain of air bottles over a ~14 hour period, ready for the next day's rescue effort.

 

Absolutely reeks of good, safe management and organization.

i personally think the coach deserves some serious slack, but to address this comment i can only say i personally have never jumped a no trespassing sign, skiied off piste, flown an ultralight, or jumped from a plane with 12 children on my back.

Could be a lot more involved than just this,   But if that was the only reason it could be he stopped a small gravy train and that upsets certain people. Most governors do very well with their own brown envelopes ---but really off topic if it had nothing to do with the rescue.

The Governor have balls enough to involve foreign expertise in an early stage. I would apploud that whatever he have been before. What he have managed to do now is impressive!

Might thoughts spot on !  I worked with a NZ Sheryl in the late '60s and so I thought the Sheryl here was about the same , in her twenties and a bit rough round the edges.   Not so , well done for keeping us up to date with proper news.

we also had a fondness for infiltrating construction sites and abandoned properties at the age of 12.

running on the log booms and log spinning was another forbidden summer adventure. we were often chased off by security on the river.



and we also had a local swamp on private land, filled with snakes and frogs and fallen logs that was our preferred summer hangout.
 

that was late 70's early 80's im kind of sad my kid doesnt have that kind of freedom to push boundaries and make mistakes.

If you get my drift----if scrumped (stolen) they tasted sweeter than the shop ones  lol, same applies the boys initial venture the excitement overrides any danger.

If I remember, there was recently a boat accident with dozens of tourists killed...maybe it would be better to "see this kind of accident never to happen again in Thailand"...just sayin'...

I just wish there was a way to deport them. Some people just don´t have any moral in their body.

9 ambulances now at the cave site on standby.

1 each for the 4 remaining boys, the coach and the 3 Navy Seals + Navy Doc who have stayed with the boys continuously for a week now
