Hi all,

i am am about to apply for my wife’s settlement visa and just wanted some advice on a few things- firstly is the English speaking listening reading writing test she originally did before coming to the uk still valid for a settlement visa?? She’s about to do her life in the uk test so I know that’s a separate thing, we have all the paperwork together I.e bank statements pay slips proof of finances etc so we are ok with that.secondly  Her biometric residency permit expires on 07-08-2018 and after looking at the time it takes for them to make a decision it will be well expired by the time we get this visa will this affect her employment at all will she be able to work whilst they make a decision??

all help appreciated

thanks

Hi,

Yes, she can work why it's been processed.

In terms of English it will depend on the level she passed at on her initial visa. What test did she pass?

If it doesn't meet the requirement she will have to have to do new test  (b1 level). A word of caution if she doesn't pass the life in the UK test and you need apply for a flr she may have to sit an new English test min a2 level. This is required for further periods of flr - rules changed a couple of years ago.

Just to clarify, when you say "you are just about to apply for your wifes settlement visa", from your post it looks like that your wife is about to apply for her Indefinate Leave to Remain (ILR), is that correct?

Sorry to seem pedantic but it might be confusing to other members.

Thanks for your reply magic roundabout, she passed a bullats test that she took in Bangkok at the beginning of the process 5+ years ago but I don’t think she has achieved the grade that is now required, we have her booked in on the 21st July for her life in the uk test and I’m booking the new English test (speaking and listening) for the week after hopefully she passes both if not maybe we will have to get the speaking and listening 1 done and go for flr. I will say this just seems like extortion where everyone makes money off our life! Lol £150 for the b1 test £50 life in the uk £2500+ for the visa, what a joke.

Thanks again
