ROI ET, 14 July 2018 (NNT) – The former Navy SEAL diver who passed away during the search and rescue operations at Tham Luang cave was cremated today in a royally bestowed ceremony.

Privy Counsellor Surayud Chulanont represented His Majesty the King in the cremation ceremony of former Navy SEAL diver Saman Gunan at Wat Ban Nong Khu temple in Roi Et province.

Saman lost his life during the search and rescue operation at Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai while transporting air tanks inside the flooded cave.

His Majesty the King graciously bestowed the cremation flame and promoted him with higher military ranks, as well as a royal decoration to honour his selfless bravery and sacrifice.

The cremation took place at 4:16 p.m. today. The ceremony was also attended by government officials, honorable guests and the general public.

It would have been the perfect rescue if he hadn't tragically lost his life trying to help.

...something special about a cremation flame?  Please tell us.

It is very special to the people who loved him and lost him.

Also, the promotion in rank will give his wife a better pension and standard of living.
