PHUKET, 27th July 2018 (NNT) – Owners of crocodiles in Phuket province are required to register with the provincial authorities before August 10th, 2018, or they would face legal action.

The Governor of Phuket, Norapat Plodthong, said on Thursday (July 26th) that the province has issued an announcement notifying crocodile owners who have yet to register with the authorities to report themselves to Phuket Provincial Fisheries Office before August 10th, following sightings of a crocodile near the province's popular beach, posing concerns for the safety of the general public and tourists.

Mr. Norapat said violating the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act would result in one year in prison or a fine of up to 10,000 baht.

District chiefs and village headmen in Phuket have also been instructed to be vigilant for crocodile sightings and warn tourists of potential dangers. Any suspicious behaviour which may indicate improper possession of crocodiles can be reported by calling the number 0-7621-2460, 089-8665991, 081-731 8923. Information which leads to the arrest will be rewarded.

The Phuket Governor said operations to capture these crocodiles are now being obstructed by poor weather, but they will be done in manners that minimize the risk to both officials and the animals. The team has recently discovered a trace believed to be from a crocodile at Bang Tao beach, and has placed eight cage traps containing food to lure the crocodiles to enter.

Is there actually a register for Crocodiles?

If you were to register your Crocodile, do you get a tag to hang from it's collar, or perhaps it's a microchip these days.

I look forward to the stories of HiSo skipping the country for possession of unregistered Crocodiles.

Errrr I think the horse has bolted once again.how about forget the 10,000b fine and just a mandatory 1 year straight to jail,do not pass go.the authorities should learn that the best way to detect anything like this and other crimes is to offer the incentive of cash rewards because Thais love money and love to sing.

Like having a large shed with a ticket booth and big chinese tour buses parked out in front.

Blimey, it's actually not illegal to own a croc here and there's just some half-arsed registry for anyone who fancies having such a dangerous animal. Talk about asking for trouble and it takes one of these beasts to be spotted in the surf of a major tourist destination to get them to crack down on the issue. Funny, so the charge is "Improper possession of a crocodile" because you snubbed the registry...give me a break.

Thank goodness mine has run off, or maybe he swam. I don't want to deal with these regulations.
