Any information on the process to obtain a Thai passport for a child that currently has an Australian passport, mother is Australian and father is Thai.

Thanks in advance.

Was the child born here or in Australia?

A Thai birth certificate will be required along with being registered in a house book. Both parents need to be present or at least one  of them with written consent from the other for the passport application.

Does the child have a Thai ID card? Think he will need one also!

That is not required for a child. They cannot get a ID card until the are 7 years old and it is not mandatory until they are 15.

Does the child have a Thai birth certificate issued by the Thai embassy in Australia.

If not it will have to be applied for at the embassy or at the Consular Affairs Department in Bangkok which will send it to the embassy.

Yes if the child was born in Australia.

It can also be done at the official consulate in Sydney.

My Thai wife and son both have dual passports BritishThai.

They are going to Thailand next month and traveling on their British passports as our sons Thai passport is out of date.

Is it possible for my wife to get a new passport for our son in Thailand?

im not going this time so she will have to do it on her own.

Ive already given her a letter to let immigration know that I’m happy for him to travel to Thailand with his mother.

She is taking his British Birth Certificate on which I’m named as his father.

What else does she she need to take.

Any advice welcomed. ?

You son can enter the country using his expired Thai passport. No need for them to use their UK passports.

For your wife to apply for the passport you need to do give her parental consent notarized by the embassy in London or one of the consulates. Consent form is here in Thai. http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/files/services-20120630-195748-510034.pdf

I assume your son has a Thai birth certificate since he has a Thai passport. That will be needed to apply for the passport and copy of his house book registry.

Requirements for the passport application in Thai is here (includes a list of passport offices). http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/images/text_editor/files/Manual PP/15-12-60-under20-edit.pdf

Thanks Ubonjoe. I’ll look into it.

Not sure if he has Thai birth certificate, as we got his second (the expired one) Thai passport here in UK. He was born in UK.

May be easier for us all to take a trip to London and get it there at the Embassy. ?

He must have a Thai birth certificate or he would not of gotten his first Thai passport. Since he was born in the UK his birth would of been registered at the embassy there. In order to get one here he would need to be registered in a house book.
