Dual Citizenship

Featured Replies

My wife is currently getting her green card (should have it in  2 months).     We'll be proceeding to full citizenship in a few years.  Can she become a U.S. Citizen and retain her Thai citizenship?  Her daughter is also getting  a greencard, with plans to adopt her in another year.  Not sure how to approach this.

If we change her last name in America, do we also have to change it in Thailand?  If you leave the U.S. with a U.S. passport and enter/leave Thailand with a Thai passport, isn't U.S. immigration going to want an explanation where you've been if your U.S. passport isn't stamped?

As for dual citizenship, the answer is Yes, she can maintain and hold both passports. That issue was settled by SCOTUS many years ago.

So long as you enter the United States using your US passport, they don't care about the entry stamps, trust me TSA knows your travel history.

As for the name thing. We were married in Thailand and my wife needed to do a name change for her Thai ID and subsequently her passport. You didn't say how old the kid is and I don't know at what age they do the ID card thing Probably, although others may know more, she just does that when she comes home

My wife is worried about changing her name in Thailand.  We're buying a piece of land in Kamphaeng Phet and she's going to be on the title as her Thai family last name.  If she subsequently changes her name, will that cause problems for her in Thailand?

I don't think that matters too much. As we know Thai change names multiple times, and it's an easy process for them. She'll end up with a name change certificate, Khor Ror 3(??) which is used to validate any other document with her name on it

Can she use my last name in America and her last name in Thailand?

Let me ask a friend, who's wife may do that, but let me confirm
