Legalities re Brit Passport renewal for dual nationals

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Are there any reasons why Dual Nationals living in LoS cannot renew their British/other passports legitimately online using their UK address & submitting via family there? The hop, skip & jump to Bkk x2 seems a monumental waste of time and a lot dearer; as does having to copy every page of their Thai passports if they too are new/blank.

Your thoughts please from anyone who might have done it or can see any reason why it cannot be done or might fail.

I suppose the stamps in your passport may indicate that you are not actually in the UK.

If I held DN there wouldn't be any ☺️

There is a service that does this. Might be worth a look if you haven't explored this already. I don't think you would have any issue applying from the UK either online using a friends or relatives address. Bunch of courier fees though.

Don't know why you are doing that. I live in Thailand and I just renewed my Canadian Passport here. I got the Application Online and completed it at home. But I went to Bangkok as I am in a rush to get it right away, as I am going away soon.

But if you are not in a rush there is no reason why you can't just mail it in. They will send it back to you by Courier Service, but I don't think it will cost that much to do. Cheaper than flying there for sure. Mine took about 2 weeks but maybe add a week or two if I mailed it in instead.

Sadly this has not been an option which has been available to us Brits renewing our passports from Thailand since 2014. ☹️

Instead, as alluded to by the OP, we are nowadays required to make 2 trips to Bangkok from whatever far-flung corner of Thailand we live in, firstly, in order to submit our renewal application to a local agent, and, secondly, to collect our replacement passport from said agent when received from the UK.
