Ancient Thai artifacts returned by American collector

BANGKOK — Prehistoric artifacts dating back thousands of years to some of the earliest people in Southeast Asia have been returned to Thailand by an American collector, officials announced Thursday.

 

Estimated to be between 1,800 and 4,300 years old, the dozen objects, which include decorated pottery and bronze jewelry, were delivered to Bangkok via the Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. and are being inspected by the relevant authorities, according to Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat.

If you recognize the name of the person who 'gave' back what was most likely purchased in river city or some other market in Bangkok She certainly doesn't need a card to remind her she is elite.

Well it's a nice gesture but doesn't mean much.  They are very average Ban Chiang pieces and of no significant value or rarity.  I would think none of the pieces are worth more than $100 or so.  These pieces are quite common and have been excavated extensively for years and years.  The really rare pieces are less likely to be returned as they are prized by real collectors.
