Hi all , i wont go into too much detail right now but me and my wife went to the vac centre on monday 30th january. i gave in the application form, the vac staff checked it. they spotted that i had put on the application form the intended date to travel was to be june 2007 . they told me that the embassy would not accept applications more than 3 months before the planned date of travel. i said to them " i have been reading your guide notes about visa applications on your website for the last year and i have been gathering up all of the required documents, i said i didnt read anywhere on the website that i could not apply more than 3 months before the intended date of travel"

they said " the website has not been updated "

i said "why hasnt it been updated"

they had no answer.

i have wasted a lot of time for nothing and am not very pleased about it.

also i didnt need most of the photocopies of many of my documents even though the vac check list clearlly states that photocopies of all documents should be provided.

good luck to all

As well as the official websites, there are many posts on this forum explaining that a visa can only be post dated for a maximum of three months. Indeed, the discussion we had in this thread and the comments you made in this one indicate that you were well aware of this 3 month limit..

No, it doesn't say that at all; look again

Further to my post above, further research shows that we discussed postponing the start date and how long for in this thread.

So what is your point? You knew that the start date could be postponed for up to 3 months, but not longer, last November!

I agree with GU22, also a little search through these forums would have produced the correct advice.

However if the date of issue is postponed for only 3 months isn't the visa still valid for 6 months allowing her to enter UK any time during the validity of that visa, which fulfill the requirements of the OP. The only downside being he will have to pay for FLR before applying for ILR which the OP has stated he doesn't mind paying.

Dear GU22,

yes i know what you are saying. i know that the visa can only be post dated for a maximum of 3 months, but if you remember our discussions, i decided that if the visa was postdated for 3 months and lets say that the visa would start end of april, and she wasnt going to travel to uk untill june . i had decided that this didnt matter and i was going to pay for the further leave to remain to make up the 2 years and then pay again for the indefinite leave to remain. i have never read that i could not apply for the visa before the 3 months before the planned date of travel.

i dont want to argue with you but if you look again at the vac check list it clearlly states that on the bottom of the list it says

PLEASE NOTE :

(a) please bring the originals and photocopies of documents listed above.

am i wrong?

You knew that visas can only be postdated for a maximum of three months, so it is self evident that they will not accept an application earlier than that. Self evident to most, anyway.

If you insist on following the ridiculous route of applying 6 months early and then needlessly paying HMG large amounts of money for unnecessary FLR applications that is your choice. In which case you should put ASAP under the date of travel.

That is what it says, i.e. bring the documents in the above list. If you then look at the list referred to you will see that some items say that the original and 1 photocopy is required, and others it doesn't.

Nowhere does it say that copies of all the documents are required.
